Been a fan since 1997. I'm 47 and bought this album the week it was released. Baffles me that it's 17 years old already when it still feels so new to me. Not my favourite Deftones album overall, but it sure has some great individual tracks on it, this being one of them. Just can't believe how quick the time has passed since 2000. The moral of this is to the younger fans. Appreciate your late teens to late twenties because once you get to your late 20's time really flies. Pink Floyd were so right when they said "And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you, no-one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun". Peace and love to you all :)

Deftones have always been the epitome of everything I ever wanted in music. Rage, beauty, depressing, soaring, joyful, nostalgic. I’ve listened to thousands of albums and hundreds of bands spanning all different kinds of genres. Deftones will always be my favorite band ever.

On March 15, 2014 I lost my mom to ovarian cancer. Whenever I'd take her to doctor appointments or chemo treatments, we'd listen to music, and 95% of the time it was the Deftones. My mom absolutely loved this song. I hadn't seen Deftones live since she passed, but I'm going to the Orlando show on my birthday, and this song is on the setlist. I know i'm gonna cry my heart out because of how much it means to me.

I remember the first day Chi came out to our job site to work as a carpenter. He lasted a couple weeks. It was his first and last job. Nothing motivates a musician like a hard day at work. RIP brother.

You can make music that will top the charts, sell & earn in millions.
You can also make music that will stand the test of time, music with depth like the sea. This song is one of them.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I get all numb
When she sings that "It's over"
Such a strange numb
And it brings my knees to the earth

[Chorus]
And God bless you all
For the song you sang us

[Verse 2]
You're the same numb
When you sing "It's over"
Such a strange numb
It could bring back peace to the Earth

[Chorus]
So God bless you all
For the song you sang us all
For the hearts you break
Every time you moan

[Bridge]
I get all numb
We're the same numb
And it brings our knees to the earth

[Chorus]
So God bless you all
For the song you sang us all
For the hearts you break
Every time you moan

[Outro]
And God bless you all
On the Earth

My dad died early this morning. This was his favorite band. I don’t know much about them but I like what I heard. I’m gonna miss my dad. He went to soon.

Update
It hasn’t even been a year and I have lost my grandma today. She was the heart of the whole family. Words cannot describe how hurt I am. Over the summer of my dad’s passing I learned guitar and I played for my grandma all the time and her dying wish was for me to play Wicked Game by Chris Isaac next to her in the hospital room. I want to thank you all for the support just with the few words. This has been my support for the past 9-10 months. Pretty much every day I have seen a response and I have liked every one of them. I have no clue what my mom and I will do as of now but I hope something will happen that will save us. At least I know my grandma and dad will be together somewhere and they are looking over me till the day I die. They were both stubborn to leave like the Scorpios they are 💙

I get all, numb

For the song you saved us
You're the same, numb
When you sing it's over
Such a strange numb
It could bring back peace to the earth
So God bless you all
For the song you saved us, oh
For the hearts you break, every time you moan
I get all, numb
We're the same numb
And it brings our knees to the earth
So God bless you all
For the song you saved us, oh
For the hearts you break, every time you moan
And God bless you all on the earth

I have a very strong emotional connection with Minerva. During my adolescence I suffered a lot from insomnia, and to this day I still have a bit of trouble sleeping well, until i discovered this song. It was the first Deftones song i heard. For about 2 years of my life I could only sleep listening to this song. Thanks Deftones for this masterpiece. I'm Brazilian and i don't speak english fluently, so i hope these words make some sense :)

"Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom, medicine, commerce, handcrafts, poetry, the arts in general, and later, war. In many ways similar to Greek goddess Athena." Considering this and examining the lyrics leads me to believe this song is about a great battle (Possibly even The Battle Of Carthage where Rome finally ended The Punic Wars because the setting of this video is a desert) that has just been finished and the goddess of war is singing "it's over" and soldier's falling to there knee's in relief of surviving this battle. That's my idea for the meaning behind Minerva.

Im going to see Deftones for the 1st time Wednesday, 2 days from now, 3/26/25 in Nashville. I wish i hadn't been in and out of jail/prison and battling drug addiction my whole life and made time to see them when Chi was still alive. May 31st will be 11 years clean from heroin, and while I'll still get to see one of my favorite bands, its another stark reminder of the things we lose/miss out on while in our addiction. R.I.P. Chi Cheng, you were an amazing bass player and amazing person. To anyone struggling with addiction, if I got clean, there's hope for you too. Keep your "headup" keep on fighting, you WILL make it! God bless you all
