I mean, most of them turned out well eventually, but we've got to admit they weren't the most obvious choices at the start.

I would love to hear Matt's take on "The Chosen" series. We are loving it!

I really appreciate the point that it really is all about God and not us.

I don’t think Jesus purposely picked lousy disciples. I think they where destined to fail Jesus regardless to prove the point that we are all a fallen people but in the end they did what Jesus wanted and spread Christianity

Wow, this just shows how simple christianity is, like the foundation of the church is common people

This message gives me a lot of hope. It is so easy to forget how God can use imperfect people to bring his kingdom here. Thank you for the reminder Matt! God bless.

This is so encouraging. I struggle so much with my motivations, to do good and serve the Lord.

Sin is so ribboned through my marrow, and my "good" deeds as much as my evil deeds need redeeming. It's so encouraging that the Lord calls us where we are and loves us where we are. And it's so good to know that He's the one who begins the good work in us. And will continue to do so.

Praise the Lord.

I agree ! Just think how it would have been if he had only picked perfect, people. We would never be able to identify with them, or Jesus. We would come to believe that he only wanted the cream of the crop. The best of the best. No flaws. Now how would that make us see ourselves or Jesus. We would or could not measure up. I love that they were not perfect. It gives us all a chance, in my view. That Christ accepts us like we are. We can always improve, and he will constantly accept our efforts. Jesus was no dummy ! And for this, I am very grateful.

The Disciples are the ultimate self-insert characters in so many ways. So many of the things they do directly apply to ourselves.

There was certainly one important quality they all had: when Jesus said 'follow me' they did immediately.
That's the only choice we have to make on our own strength, after that it's in God's hands

0:30 The Seven Samurai!!!
10:52 That's an excellent point, which I've never considered or head of.

Matt, I cannot BELIEVE you didn't mention "The Dirty Dozen" in connection with the apostles! There were a dozen of them! They were social outcasts! One of them betrayed the team! Burgess Meredith picked them even knowing they were rotten! The parallels abound!

I haven’t even watched the video yet but I wanted to say this is one of the best YouTube thumbnails I’ve ever seen 😄

FYI when someone hangs to death a few things can happen depending on mass, length of rope, and time of decay after death.
For an example if a 200 lbs 6 ft man hangs on a ten ft rope. The force of the fall would usually rip the the man's head clear off and if the body falls another ten ft or so the remaining body would likely rip apart.
Another example would be the same man but with a 6 ft rope. The man would either brake his neck with instant death or choke to death. If the man's corpse remains to decay for a sufficient time, then the tissues that hold the body together would rip apart by the mer mass of the corpse and fall to the ground and separate even further.
I hope this helps you rap your mind around Judas' death.
Btw if anyone is thinking this is a good way to die, please remember what the one's who love you would have to see.

The magnificent seven is actually a remake of an old japanese film called the Seven samurai. It's really good. The same thing can be said about a fist full of dollars. Originally a samurai movie, but still great.

One of my favorite TMBH podcast episodes is Matt describing the "sons of thunder" incident with James and John. It's fun to think about their journey through the gospels.

The 12 apostles were like mixing oil and water x12. Certainly points to One who is able to mix the unmixable and create something incredible from it. Great video, Matt.
