Kankandara is one of my absolute favourites. When I listened to this in Kowabana while in bed I was so scared I didn't realize that I stared shocked in to the darkness instead of closing my eyes XD it really got me! Kunekune is also pretty good. So easy and short and yet so scary. I remember with Hasshaku-sama in your first Kowabana episode I was like: ok that's a scary one to begin with *subscribed* XD

Magagami-sama creeped me out the most. However, Ryomen Sukuna (whom I'd never heard of before) is intensely creepy to me, because the story behind it is the most realistic, and disturbing.

When I read the Magagami-sama story in one of your books, that one immediately stuck with me. There are just so many bizarre and unsettling details and so little ever gets explained that I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I think the story of Yamanoke is the creepiest, being stranded somewhere with a broken car and having a yokai possess you sounds awful!

The one urban legend I can never forget is when my family in Japan told me about "Teke Teke"(てけてけ). Teke Teke is basically a woman with only her upper body left. Shes called "Teke Teke" because when she crawls, it makes the sound of her hands slapping against the ground crawling toward you. Oh and dont underestimate her speed, she can chase cars.

It's hard to pick a favourite though!! I really liked the ending of Magagami's story, cuz the entire village just ends up pretending nothing happened, which is so unnerving to me..

I don't know what this one is called, and when I try to describe it, the net fails me.
But my scariest would be a yokai that looks like a floating torso with overly-long arms. He travels behind people who walk alone at night, and those he follows will get the strong sensation there's someone behind them. But they CAN'T turn around, because once they do, he grabs them and carries them to the underworld.
The way to save yourself is to reach your destination or find more people... and of course, not to turn around until either of those things happen. Which SOUNDS easy but, to have the skin-crawling feeling of someone behind you, and possibly to HEAR them, but be unable to turn around or even indicate you know it's there? THAT gives me the ever-loving creeps.

I wouldn't say I find Kankandara the scariest, but it's a story that's kind of stuck with me. Probably because I feel bad for the shrine maiden, they did her DIRTY 😒
