These maps are also supposed to show the direction of the slope, which will identify whether it's a hill/mountain or a ravine/valley or whatever. I think they are called "bergschtrichs" in German.

You are on top of a hill if you look up and there is only sky.

I was once on a land navigation course at what will soon be called Ft Johnson La.

I was on a hilltop at the correct marker
I was standing in 4 inches of water.

There was a 20ft diameter depression on the hilltop.
