Our Garden is Flooded...

Never thought that I would make such a video. I had to deal with it for the first time in my life. But such situations show what I am capable of and that pure love towards my place that I am fighting for till blisters on my hands.
Now I am actially sick at looking at water but hoping it'll pass. Surely I "had fun" during the past days.

I looked at this handy satellite weather map. it does show that your region had lots of precipitation past few days. Lucky you weren't more to the east, that got even more rain. Good luck with everything... the forecast is showing a bit more rain possible this weekend., Then the next few days will be drier and warmer, for next week.

You should put in some "french drains".
Basically a ditch sloped to a runoff with some perforated pipe buried under gravel.

The water sinks through the stones it's picked up by the perforated pipe and carried away.

There are instructional videos here on YouTube. Keep your spirits up and keep gardening

You are so amazing and strong. I think most of us modern people have no clue how much hard work it needs to make nature yield its bounty to us in harvesting. That you have the time to educate us is amazing. I wish you all the best.

It s so good to See such a natural giftet and humble Person from the other side of the European continent. You remind me of a girlfriend in the czech republic 20 years ago. It makes me nostalgic to listen to you. So passionate and obsessed by her own entire world. Good to See such people on Videos. I could also imagine you, being a excellent musician, by the accent, you speak, but also by the profound feeling in a foreign language. Polyglott, for sure! Bravo!

Dear Katsia, Impressed by the peppers, that they did not freeze off.

On the drainage: There seems to be a small pond on the south side of your plot next to the grass/hay plot. If you could be allowed to make a diagonal from the nothern neighbour through the lowest part of your plot and through the next two plots with a perforated drainage pipe and "french drains" as described buy Gordon Mckerrell. Then you could maybe get through with a permanent solution.

The nothern neighbour plot seems to be higher than your plot. It gives a constant water pressure from the northern plot. If you drain the northside and connect it to the diagonal, the northern part could go to the pond too.

A drain could be a 25cmx20cm bed of shingles, wrapped in 1 m wide geotextile, at least 30-40 cm, peferably deeper like 60 - 80 cm, below the soil surface with a slight slope, but newer lower than the exit of the drain. The geotex prevents clogging from the soil. The geotex comes in 1, 2 or 4 m width. The roll can be cut to measure by a hand saw. The perforated pipe is the most effective, Or combine the two as described by Gordon M.

If you do not have sufficient stones in the ground and shingles are expensive you could try to look for crushed concrete, granite etc. in the same size. I do not know how concrete react if it is waterlogged in the ground for years.

Drawback is that drains also works in the summer time then its dry.

It is hard to judge terrain levels from a far.

This is a huge task and need to be cut into parts.

Watch some videos, talk to some people, and try to put a project together, if it makes sense. This is just a proposal.

I am also glad to see that you’re such a hard worker there’s a lot of lazy people in the world but it’s nice to see someone that really cares about their place and works hard for it

Sincere condolences on this significant, weather-related setback. But most important, please be careful in the mud and everywhere else. Your safety is priority number one! Thanks so much.

Maybe in the summer dig some proper ditches around the property. You’ve already started to figure out the lay and angle of the land, so maybe have the ditches at the bottom of the slope.

In the UK we have ditches around the edges of the fields, near the roads and also along hedgerows dividing fields.

If there are any footpaths through fields and along hedges, there’s sometimes a little footbridge over the ditch.

You could also dig a big pond for the water to flow into. :)

Sorry for your troubles, you work so hard!...God bless you. Have you thought about creating raised beds?
Also a temporary solution for the PolyTunnel would be to get a small sump pump and dig a hole in the P.T. floor ..below the water level for the pump..or maybe syphon it out with a hose.

Sis. Sorry to see your vegetables garden are flooded..you are alert and you found a great way to drain off those water from the lower rows by making deeper trenches for water to flow in ooposite direction..Packing of sand bags would not work for this event..great afford on your intellectual ideas to come out with good solution.May God bless your work.
Be happy and see good result at the end of the hard work. Halleluyah !! Praise the Lord..God bless.

Hi Katsiaryna, It's Old Dave again, from Minnesota, USA. I find it interesting how, where ever you live, gardeners must know their soil and weather conditions and be able to adapt their garden, and themselves, to make it work out. Here at our house we're on soil that it much more well drained than our neighbors and than my uncles place 25 miles away. Most folks haven't planted yet because of the abundance of rain and I'm ready to get our irrigation started. You are learning so much about gardening your land/soil, congratulations.
A side note, I have noticed how muscular your hands are, especially your thumbs. Cause I'm retired now from the horticulture business I operated for many years, my hands are becoming quite scrawny, especially my thumbs. Be thankful Dear for healthy, strong body you've been blessed with, you too will be old one day.
So glad to have you as a friend, 'till later, Dave

You are useful to clear the water for the tractors. You are also helping your mother's brother's fields. We also had rain this morning and the weather is pleasant now although, we have summer and the temperature is around 40 degrees. I appreciate your hobby and helping hands for your family.

Maybe somebody already wrote you: for little tree you could dig in circle around them, 50cm far from them to let accumulate the extra water into the dig around. Absolutly important dig the girls. Brava!
