I think this is trying to show two things.
1) How sexulaized celebrities are, even if they don't want to be, so they will get more fans.
2) And how bad news brings so much more attention than good news, so they don't bother to tell you the good news.
I also think Charlotte represents the media, in that even though what she's doing is clearly wrong, it is still somehow perfectly justified.
