Demo of me using Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on a relatively modern 2009 Thinkpad T400.

I have added mediocre video support. Sound support is accomplished via a clone of the Covox Speech Thing. Gigabit networking is allowed due to DOS drivers from Intel.

A bonus section including Windows 1.04 is at the end.

I remember doing color prepress design work on Windows 3.11 in late 1992.

If your laptop has a cardbus slot, you could use a PCMCIA sound card

I see that you wrote on the blog post “…to equal this feat for Windows XP which support ended in 2014, you have to install XP on a machine to be built 2022. I don’t mind trying to see if that is possible then!” I’m sure you now know what to do

The fox is quick. The purpose is to test every letter.

How did you install the drivers to get the max resolution that your laptop supports?

I remember using Win 3.1 and Trumpet Winsock back in the day.

It's not that hard even on current hardware, one can simply install DOS onto a USB drive and switch the BIOS to compatibility mode. One has to be aware of the A20 line backwards compatibility not working on modern CPUs, though - some implementations of HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE don't work because of this. Also I couldn't get MS-DOS to run this way properly (disk access is unstable), so I can only get Windows 3.1 in standard mode.
