Thank you. Venlafaxine took away chronic emotional agony. I got off it once before, against medical advice. I just got back on it almost a year ago, and it's been a huge relief. I'm also running again, which I love. I think exercise is crucial to mental health, whether we take medication or not. I think we metabolize Effexor and anything else if we're consistent with cardiovascular exercise, the more the better. I need hours per day to feel ok; I'm fortunate to have an active job and the ability to bike-commute.

My ENT prescribed Venlafaxine (ER 37.5mg) for my Vestibular Neuritis. He said it would take 2 weeks and my vertigo would be gone. I took one pill and
my vertigo was 80% gone in 2 hours. Hey great... At 4am I woke up with a blinding headache. Then I remembered reading watch your blood pressure if you take this.
So I take my blood pressure....197/121. Off to the ER I go. The ER Dr. gave me 0.1mg of Clonidine and in one hour my blood pressure was 117/74.
If I have to chose between Vertigo and a Stroke I think I'll go with the Vertigo.

I truly believe it’s designed that way by the manufacturer so users have trouble getting off of the drug.

I had all side effects. Evil drug in my opinion. A good way to avoid tapering off, is not start.

Yes! Brain zaps happen if you miss a dose or are trying to taper. I have tried to come off a 75 mg dose, slowly tapering, many times. I finally gave up.

Been on it for several years - takes the edge off my anxiety - withdrawal for me causes intense headaches/dizziness that feels like it’s coming from the base of my skull - plus like a brain fog.

But if you take it same time everyday then you should be good!! Gradual decline is best for getting off this med

I have been on it for more than 30 years and the withdrawals are more than tough. I have tried numerous times to taper off but the the dizziness, swooshing, when I turn my eyes and head lasted for weeks and I just gave up and went back on a maintenance dose. I am trying again right now. Wish me luck, had I known it was going to be like this I wouldn’t have started it

I was on Side-Effexor. I found I was getting brain zaps without changing the dose. . (It was recently suggested to me that may have been caused by a change in the time of day I took it.)
Fortunately I understood the tapering down idea. I couldn't get into the doctor for a week or two, so I started removing a few spanules a day from the capsule. This seemed to work well.

I am on year 4 of terrible depressive agitation after tapering from this drug. Was fine before taking the drug, just going through a breakup, tapered after 6 years. Then it started. Very strange and unnatural feeling.

"Like akathisia, the discomfort is extreme and impairing.  In fact, the SSRI toxicity related symptoms appear much more uncomfortable than even serious anxiety or depression unrelated to SSRIs.  Some describe it as anxiety and some as depression, but typically it has a fairly abrupt onset and is worse than anything previously experienced.  The patients seem to be unable to describe it except to say that it is extremely uncomfortable – crawling out of my skin.  My suspicion is that patients are reluctant to talk about how they feel because they are having suicidal thoughts and fear the possibility of involuntary hospitalization.  Akathisia is probably the best term currently in use to describe the syndrome of late onset and persistent withdrawal symptoms, but  these symptoms need to be better categorized, studied, and described.

Particularly after long-term use, the resulting akathisia can be severe and disabling. It is excruciating, and patients are so visibly anguished. Sometimes reinstatement or trying other medications helps a lot, and sometimes any medication seems to make things incrementally worse."

I was just recently prescribed this medication and after hearing about the potential side effects I became very discouraged with this medication and my current psychiatrist. Why would I want to take something that has rough withdrawal and has the potential to create electrical zaps in your brain? That sounds almost just as bad as depression……. Smh I am losing confidence in being able to treat my depression and that is very frustrating. Thank you for making this video. My psychiatrist didn’t mention any of these potential side effects and only said that I might become nauseas. It’s fair to say he just lost a patient.

I have used most AD’s and now I’m switching to Efexor. I’ve had bad luck with side effects with prior drugs, or they didn’t work. I really hope this is going to work out. I already gained 45 kg in body weight.

I gradually tapered down from being on 150 mg XR to the lowest dose 37.5mg, which I was on for 2 years. I had no energy or ambition so decided to stop 4 months. I am so irritable. Is that a normal side effect?

I find it interesting that the regular side effects almost exactly mimic the withdrawal symptoms. 😐
I’ve been on 75mg for about a year and all of a sudden, the last three days have felt like all the side effects hit me at once. But I’m also having withdrawal symptoms while I’m still taking it.
I had an on call drop my dose from 75mg to 37.5.
I’m tapering off and it’s literally some the worst feelings I’ve ever felt.
This is NOT Ok.

Has this medication helped anyone in the comments? I just picked up my prescription today and after this video and reading the possible side effects, I don’t know if I will actually take it

I've been on Effexor XR (Venlafaxine) - 75 mg. - for about 7 or 8 years now and I'm always made aware when I'm due another dose because my brain starts "zitzing" (as I call it). (I'm now suffering from severe shaking of my upper body, arms and hands and I'm wondering whether to have my doctor up the dose to 150 mg. or to wean myself off the medication). I don't know if the shaking is being caused by the Venlafaxine or not but it's driving me crazy!! By coincidence, my brain is "zitzing" right now!
