Without Rick, Negan and the Saviors would have expanded but eventually run into the Whisperers, Commonwealth and CRM. Even if he could defeat the Whisperers, it's doubtful he'd be capable of defeating the Commonwealth and no chance in hell defeating the CRM.

The worst thing about it all is that if the "the rest of their lives" part is literal, probably as Negan dies, the next in charge would be a much worse person, considering how his people perceive him as, while he is a good person who learned the worst way of doing things is the most efficient.

I think Rick would have lived, in the show Rick still get shot and lives and he shoots at the governor multiple time before getting shot.

Well Alexandria would have fallen due to the walkers in the massive pit and the walkers would've most likely killed everyone or they would die due to them not being able to survive bc they don't have the experience
