This has been so enlightening. I love hearing about the radical stuff women got up to in the 70s.

It would be nice to have subtitles for the second presentation.

I feel I have to defend a type of therapy that after more than 100 years, is still in the struggle against patriarchal medicine and that is Occupational Therapy. OT was started by women in the UK & US as a challenge to the medical model with its roots in psychiatric settings. The focus being that meaningful and purposeful occupation (or simply activities, we're not talking about work here) can promote healing. It's a profession that is still very female dominated, but because of that, it's constantly at the bottom of the pile for funding, it's therapists don't have time to do the research needed to evidence what they do. Often OTs have to battle with 'psychological' therapists coopting OTs work e.g. Behavioural Activation is really just OT but some psychologists relabelled it then claimed OTs should be trained in it and supervised by psychologist to deliver it.

It's a little strange to have so much of the presentation stating that mental health care is problematic and then to feature a psychiatrist. What that should show is that as with doctors, there are good and bad ones out there. Women are victimized and oppressed by the patriarchy, but can still be helped by woman-positive, empowering therapy. Rather than condemning therapy outright, I think it makes a lot more sense to help women navigate the system.
