The updated version of the 1888-90 I did last. Now with 100% more locking lugs and smokeless powder. I'm not disputing Mannlicher's genius, but this design reached a point where the advantages dont outwheigh the complexity of the design methinks. At least I got to reuse the work I did for the 1888-90.

About 40 years ago I got a coupon booklet from the NRA. There was a coupon for a Steyr 1895 long rifle in 8x56R. Cost was $75.00
It came by UPS, packed in cosmoline and when cleaned was absolutely like new gorgeous. Still have it and about 150 rounds of ammo. Ammo then was $29.00 for 250 rds, 1938 Nazi headstamp. Today almost unobtainable and close to $5 per round when found. The 1895 is a very elegant rifle and I will never sell mine.

Interesting stuff. Reading the book "Dangerous River" by R. M. Patterson, and these boat travelers are in the Northwest Territories Nahanni country shooting sheep for meat with these, circa 1930s. Book published 1954.

What prevents the bolt from flying backwards when a round is fired?
in other words, what locks the bolt when it is forward?

Hmm.... I really wonder how its clip fall down when the bolt get the last round? Is it from bolt that kick it downward when pushing the bolt forward or from other mechanism?

How does the cartridge just fall out on the side?
I mean, In which way is that correct? All the ones I’ve seen, you shoot them all, and then you pull them all out at the same time, en bloc.

So, basically a bolt action M1 with a 5 round clip. Good animation

The Mannlicher M95 was a fairly good rifle. It wasn't that underpowered as is often claimed and had more muzzle energy than an AK-47 or an AR-15. It was generally reliable, but due to lack of standardization between the different factories that made it, modern day collectors often have parts made in different factories, and it's that lack of standardization in what collectors have which causes the poor reliability and its bad reputation. Austria-Hungary's lack of standardization can't be understated, as they were the country with 15 different railroad gauges and 15 different versions of their national anthem each in a different language. The Mannlichers made in WWI were much more reliable than what collectors have, and the poor performance of the Austro-Hungarian army in WWI gives everything associated with it a bad reputation.
