Make New Glue Sticks from Used Hot Glue

If you work a lot with hot glue, there is a chance you waste some.
Dripping glue gun, glue used on things that you no longer need etc.
In this video I show you a way to take your used glue and melt it back to a brand new glue stick.
Once you have made a mold, it can be used hundreds of times, saving you money,

It can be used in temperatures up to 400F (205C) - enough to melt the glue.

How unusual and refreshing to find a youtube tutorial that actually has a useful and brilliant idea. With no speeded up footage, or heavy drum and bass. Great, Subbed. Also, I truly love your accent. It reminds me of Bela Legosi's Dracula, in a lovely Count from Sesame Street kind of way. I mean absolutely no offence, I truly love it. God Bless from the UK<><

Dude is genius. The satisfaction from recycling is great.

now usually these are not very helpful but as someone who works extensively with silicon and makes moulds, this was fantastic. and is an incredible idea that is concise and very clear.

The comments though! LMAO!! This is a great idea for people who use hot glue on a regular basis just for fun or people who are just learning. A lot of mistakes and restarts when you are learning how to write with a glue gun. I, for one, appreciate the video. Thank you for sharing your idea!

this video was actually great you don't need a step by step guide cause it's already in the vid, awesome for people who waste too many glue stick and reuse it again

Well, that's better than what I was doing, trying to figure out how to pour heated excess glue into a straw. Lmao

When you cut silicon
Cut the mood in a zig zag all the way down to get a better fitting mold👍

I make a cruder form. I use polymer clay (the cheep stuff) to make 2 half molds. Right now, I work inside and am concerned about fumes so I don't melt all the used glue (When I can move so I can do it outdoors, it will change).
Basically, I mix heated hot glue with pieces of left over glue (which melts) in the 2 halves. Then when they are cool, I put them together.
For those who are saying, just buy some more. If people make things with it as crafts or need a lot of it working - it can get costly and it get wasteful.
I'd like the silicon mold maker but it cost too much for what I use on average.

You are the man! But I have a question: Does this remelted glue behave the same as a virgin glue-stick in applications ? I wonder if there are one-way reactions that happen when the glue is melted the first time, then cures? For example, solvents that evaporate or binding reactions that are activated, which might not happen again in the re-melted glue. Anyhow, very interesting research. Joyful ingenuity and resourcefulness at its best! My hot-glue research has to do with applications of textile repair. If the glue can be applied to either piece, and then re-melted (with an iron) to create a weld with another piece of pre-glued or perhaps porous fabric... Thank you.

I'm thinking of using a method very similar to this to make sticks of pla from failed 3d prints so I can put them through my hot glue gun. Nice video.

this is especially useful for dent pulling glue which is very expensive hotglue

ive noticed in the comments that a few of you are saying ... ( its a lot of faffing about as they are so cheap and easy to buy )
yes ok they are cheap, yesok they are easy to get but this is absolutely perfect for the guy who makes cosplay costumes up untill even after the stores are shut .. and his glue runs out halfway through creating !!! and he has to complete it next day or lose out to a client .. ... this is an awesome idea .. think about it five stars mate

Great project for us crafters.   Oh Yeah!

Nice! But you dont' need to cut the silicon mold. Since it is flexible, and it is more flexible than the glue all you need to do is to bend it slightly by a couple of times and then pull the glue stick out of it.

Very creative and cool. Smart way to make the seemingly impossible, possible.

Dude, you are genius, but there's so many steps here, I can't follow, , making the mold haha. But once u do that it's all good. I just want to melt these and put them in something, PREMADE, as a mold lol

Nice, I had a random burning question if hot glue could be remelted. To think that there was a video on it.

That's cool! I had thought about recasting used glue, but I think maybe the silicone you used for the mold cost more that the glue you are saving. I guess it might be worthwhile if you have a really lot of wasted glue.
