I'm surprised Christopher Lee wasn't mentioned. I used to be in touch with his great niece, who said that he was a secret service operative in the 1940s, but this only became known after he died, and he was too modest to talk about it when he was alive.

Growing up I LOVED watching Julia Childs cooking shows! I remember the first time I heard that she was extraordinarily tall and that her kitchen had to be customized to account for her hight. When I heard she was an officer of the OSS, which wasn't very long ago, I really wasn't surprised. She always gave off this, "I love everybody" vibe and I could very easily see her fighting against the antithesis of that.

Should do a top 10 of famous people who were legit badasses. Dr. Ruth was a sniper for what would become Israel.

Great Top Ten again Mr Whistler and team. I knew several of these but still learned something new. Thanks again.

Roald Dahl also wrote the original draft of "You Only Live Twice" and revealed why Bond movies became so formulaic.

Ronald Dahl was my favorite author as a child. Totally hilarious to think he was gathering information by sleeping with people.

I didn't know that about Cary Grant. Especially since Cary is my number 1 favorite Hollywood actor.

A few months ago the first toptenz vid I watched showed up in my recommended inbox. Ever since then I've been thoroughly amazed and impressed by many of Simon and crews vids on all 3 channels, I simply cant get enough. Especially the ones regarding WW1&2 and cold war spy knowledge, also how ancient history shaped the modern world and the epic tales of survival. Most recently how a man named poon survived over a hundred days lost alone at sea or how the gimli glide came about or even how you might drown while ejecting from your fighter plane while still in the sky.. these vids have quickly made me the smartest guy at the bar... err... pub. Or at least I always have a fun story to share and knowledge to drop. Thanks guys for feeding the the addiction. Finally the work ethic is unreal, as a racing buddy of mine would say "Simon is an absolute beast".

Best episode yet. That was so boldly frank and illuminating. Loved the knowledge drop.

No mention of Leslie Howard, who definitely merits a mention. Love Cary Grant, my all time favourite actor. It might be interesting to know what was going on with Errol Flynn.

Getting tapped to “tap” rich, married women and begging your handler to let you stop. That’s hard core right there.
