For 40 years I have been an avid, die hard Prismacolor pencil fan. First as a portrait commission artist, then a gardening magazine illustrator, eventually moving onto illustrating children’s books with them. Winning awards all along the way, mainly using my Prismacolors. Sometimes augmenting them with Derwent Studio pencils and some Caran D’Ache Neocolor II. Finally, I decided to branch out, and dabble with other materials. Who knows? Maybe this decade I’ll become a watercolourist!

Here’s my first peek at my new set of 120 Polychromos. All over YouTube I heard complaints about Prismacolors breaking..... well, my very first peek at my new Polychromos brought surprise when I saw busted and chipped tips! In this short video I show you how I found them upon first glance. A big disappointment. Faber-Castell could have simply put a little cushioning under the lid to keep the pencils from smashing around during transit.

In a future video I’ll discuss how well they are working for me. As for now (I’ve already test driven the 12 color set), nowhere near as nice as my new set of Caran D’Ache Luminance 6901...... later I’ll talk about the Luminance’s Lux packaging!
