Steve "The Voice" Perry, I swear, had the voice of an angel in the rock world. I am 60 years old, and that idea has never changed for me. He was IS a gift to music.

Without AutoTune, without prerecorded music, without backup dancers, without pyrotechnics, without TV.

Steve Perry and Journey date from a time when winning a game show or starring in a sitcom were not a shortcut to instant stardom. In their day, a singer had to actually sing, the players had to actually play, and a really catchy YouTube clip couldn't be substituted for years on the road honing one's craft. They had to put in the work, pay the dues and develop the abilities that we just don't see in popular "musicians" today.

And I would really hate becoming that crusty old fart who keeps saying "music was better in my day, that stuff you stupid kids listen to is just half-assed crap". I WOULD hate it, except that it's objectively TRUE. Every single turd that the kiddies throw up the pop charts makes the case for every angry curmudgeon like me.

I'm 57 and I saw them twice in 1981 and in 1983 back when I was in high school and they are without a doubt the greatest live band I've ever heard. Steve Perry is not of this earth! Legends!
