The night before my wedding, I was pressured to sign a contract that would require me to give them my salary. What I said at the altar left everyone speechless.

OP is a fool. Why even sign the contract in the first place? Just say no and move on, don't risk any legal issues

Dude, did you notice, that not one of them was concerned about you or what you thought?

She just trying to make safe fund when she meet new guy & left him

Just walk away. Voting with your feet is always the best.

It was an exit plan from the beginning.

nta - you don't owe any apology. they were more disrespectful with that contract

It would be under duress the day before the wedding and no court would uphold it.

Yeah I agree that was an untrustworthy move. If you had already talked about starting a family, her becoming a STAH Mom while you were the secure breadwinner was aready hashed out. I'll bet she had a guy on the side and would have taken you for everything

Probably wouldn't hold up due to signing under duress. He should have just said I can't sign this until my lawyer reviews it. So I guess the wedding is off until then. Dude way worked too.

NTA, Op was right in calling it off right there leaving no questions as to why it was called off.

NTA
Telling him the night b4, not enough time to cancel wedding bills. So she created the mess

No. Don't apologize. It's her place to apologize.

NTAH Chelsea should’ve been more forthcoming SHE tried emotional manipulation the day before the wedding that was disrespectful and dishonest. No apology needed

Op is too nice. She messed up. Let her own up to her big ole L

Conspiracy and attempted robbery under color of contract law. Somebody here has no ethics.

What is it you have to apologize for? Revealing Chelsea's behaviour? That is for her to apologise for. NOT YOU.

If this story is true the only reason she was asking for the 40% is because she was planning on leaving him when it became convenient, ie she had a nest egg of sufficient size. Nobody in their right mind would give 40% of their salary to their spouse to funnel away while using the other 60% to take care of the family all the while she saves all of her income as well. That is essentially paying alimony and child support while still married.

Wow dramatic? 😂😂😂 Yes but WTF WAS THEY EXPECTED WITH THIS HORRIBLE BEHAVIOR!!! your family should be more supportive to you! So no you should not apologize! clearly they lack backbone since they act like this!

should have said no to the contract, outright. By calling off the wedding you risk a palimony suit. If she calls off the wedding she gets nothing. Stupid palimony laws.

On the contract, I would have said no to signing it. If she said she would not marry me, I would have walked out. Now, what the groom did was truly a bit extreme, but doesn't make him a bad guy. He should not apologize. Now, after I walked out when she said she wouldn't marry me, I would have kept the contract, then had she started bad mouthing me, I would have published the contents of the contract in the local paper (we did not have online back in '75.) and passed it out to every one of our mutual friends and explained why I said no to signing, and that she was the one that cancelled the marriage when I would not sign it.
