When using the Multi Sensor, it is advantageous to place the magnet on the frame and the sensor on the moving part (window or door) as they also sense motion.

I use my smart things for my cabin in Pennsylvania. I have a smart outlet with a lamp attached to it that if one of my porch Arlo cameras triggers motion it will turn on the interior lights to mimic that someone is home. The other camera if detects motion triggers the 8 porch high hats to light up the whole porch so you can get a good recorded view of who’s on the porch. The other is my leak sensor I use it as temperature gauge for my basement that if it gets below a certain degree it alerts me for pipes will freeze

Great video! Using the SmartThings door sensor to notify mail delivery is really cool!. Does this mean the SmartTings sensor is water proof? How fast does this use drain the battery?

When putting a sensor on a window put the sensor on the top of the bottom window and put the magnet at the bottom of the top window

This does two things.
1. It will tell you your window is open for both the top and bottom window with only one sensor. That is especially important if it is for a security system.
2. It blends in a bit better.

Very informative video. I have 4 water sensors which trigger a Dome auto water shutoff valve in case of a water leak. I had 10K worth of damage from a busted water heater. And of course I was not home.

Back in the day that multi-purpose sensor was called a reed switch. Businesses used to wire them to a doorbell so that when customers went in or out the front door, it would alert the employees.

I put the multi sensor on my bedroom door to trigger a light to turn on when I open the door. Super basic but functional when it’s 2am and you don’t want to fumble for your phone or light switch.
