Sometimes it's the little things that matter, and that's no exception with Tesla's new Model S and X. From the steering "yoke," to AI controlled driving, to new battery cooling technology, to noise cancelling, to the equivalent of a PS 5 built into the car, these new cars are going to be amazing to drive in--or have drive for you!

I think that even if this noise cancellation focuses on the tyre and wind noise elements, which of course are far more predictable and easier to deal with effectively that would be a huge improvement. There are real situations when external noises are good to hear.... emergency service vehicle’s sirens etc but again I’m sure these can be listened for by the control equipment and actioned appropriately.

I think thought the temp problem with the MS was more about the old electric motor that has not permanent magnets?

Hope the noise canceling works, I often wondered why automakers have made it an option. I've also wonder why airlines haven't adopted it as well.

I'm wondering which direction the car would the car go- forward or back- after camping in the desert, nothing out front, back or sides

Elon already said that the turn anticipation could be manually overridden on the touchscreen on the Q4 earnings call.

I guess the reason for 22 speakers is mainly for noise cancelling.... Thinking it would be hard to justify that many speakers otherwise.

You should/can talk about why the noise in the M3 mesures the same as other good cars but still is annoyingly strong. I think the frequency range is up in the area where our ears are more sensitive.

Ordered a Model X on January 6th. Paid my down payment, received my purchase order agreement from Tesla, with a delivery date estimate of March and a purchase price. Yesterday, out of nowhere a Tesla rep reached out to me in an email to say I need to pay about another $7500 (plus taxes) to receive this order! I responded back asking if they were going to cancel the order if I didn’t pay the additional amount and they won’t answer the question? In the end Tesla does it to themselves....

First world problems. “I have a self driving electric car that is quieter than any gas car, but I can’t be happy unless it is completely silent”. But I suppose I do live in the first world so I might as well embrace it.

About the noice cancelling. I do agree with you and also try to get rid of the cabin noice in my December delivered S. Had a 3 before and the current (now already too old :) S is far better than the 3 i had before but has still too much noise. So i bought BOSE QUIETCOMFORT EARBUDS which are far far better than the Apple Pro airpods. Why? because you can scale the noise canceling on a scale from 0 to 100. I hope that the sound settings of my new S, which i ordered a couple of days ago (mainly because i love the new one because it features the best of the 3/Yand from the more luxurious S, especially the supension), will also let us scale the noise canceling (i did read somewhere that Bose is behind the Tesla noise canceling setup). If this is true it might come in the settings.

Hey man, you need to either use a prompter (guessing you already are and not a PC) or if you are using one, move it back. The eye movement is distracting.

A great video on the subject

Love the content!😎

I have been asking about noise cancelling since I bought my model 3 1n 2019. Do you suppose that an older car could be retrofitted? I have had noise cancelling headphones for our airplane for years to the point that it is ubiquitous.

A whole lot less driving very soon. That’s what we’re hinting at.

Musk was asked the question at q4, 2020 earnings call of whether Tesla would change their practice of tying FSD to ownership of vehicle and he clearly said that they would not (that call was after Musk on twitter said he would consider it when asked the same question on twitter. So now Tesla apparently has considered it and the answer is no). IMO you can't complain about this as this is a clearly stated term when you buy FSD that ownership of it is personal for the life of the vehicle you bought. If you are unhappy with these terms do not buy FSD or don't buy the vehicle to begin with. Complaining after the fact is unjustified IMO. Otherwise great channel like your videos.

Now, if someone could just come up with noise cancelling for apartments and dorm rooms.

Trade in for FSD should be full value. Software does not wear out over time. Nor does FSD become outdated as Tesla give free updates included in the price. In fact, as FSD appreciates in value over time there is an argument to be made for Tesla giving you more than you paid for it at trade in. If you sell your Tesla privately this is exactly what will happen, so Tesla should also reflect this increased value at Trade in. Consider also that Elon has been hyping Tesla as an appreciating asset due to FSD. Elon needs to put his money where his mouth is on this one.
