7.3 EXCURSION OVERLAND BUILD vs HELLS GATE

Since I couldn't talk Jamin into taking Project Towverlander our 7.3 Excursion Overland Build up Pritchett Canyon we settled for the next best thing and that is Hells Revenge Trail in Moab Utah. We built this Diesel Excursion Off Road rig to do the hard trails so we won't be taking any bypasses. That means this 11,300 lb Ford Excursion rock crawler is going up Hells Gate whether it likes it or not. The hard part is we have to run this entire trail in time for me to catch a flight out of Moab that afternoon. Then Jamin will be driving this extreme overland excursion back home to Georgia to complete the over 5000 mile journey. We want to thank all of the partners that helped out on this build, the performance of this vehicle is a testament to how awesome their parts are. For all of you folks at home that stuck with us as we took this from concept to finished build, and now an epic adventure, THANK YOU! We can't wait to get this thing out on the trail more as well as get started on some new Knucklehead Garage Projects so stay tuned!

So glad to see something more than the same four videos of off-roading Excursions we've had in YouTube up until this series. Excellent job guys, representing the EX community. Great build too.

Love seeing the Excursion doing work out in Moab, especially since I have a 2000 F250 with the 7.3. I was rather surprised how well my old girl did out in Moab. Think the long wheel base and weight actually helped me in some situations where a shorter vehicle might have gotten me in trouble. Although the length did get me in trouble in a few places, luckily I kept my cool and drove through it. My scariest moment happened on one of the easiest trails, Hurrah Pass/ Chicken Corners. I started heading down after reaching the top of Hurrah Pass and didn't realize I took one of the tight turns too sharp. Looked in my mirror and my right rear tire was hanging off the edge. Don't know how my truck didn't slide off, but I'm pretty sure some poo came out when that happened 🤣.

Always loved the excursions!! The 7.3 is a coveted engine and rightfully so too. The saying they don't build them like they used to holds true with the excursion!

"I can't see over the hood" I know that feeling in my F250. Cresting an unknown hill is nerve wracking.. Great vid! From another 7.3 owner

At right about 4:40, turn on closed captioning... Your tire says "help" ... Absolutely hilarious!!

Those springs are unbelievably strong on that truck!

Damn Boys...Hell's Gate was fantastic!! I have never seen a Ford Excursion climb like that! You may go down in the MOAB history book for that one. Thanks for the ride along, I will not forget this one!

The excursion made it look easy, but for the educated eye that was very impressive for such a heavy vehicle, I've seen smaller rigs struggle on some of those sections Maybe the weight actually helped with the traction) But definitely off to scour the net for a excursion 😆

Love this series. I have a 2000 Excursion I'm in the middle of rebuilding: coilspring swap (cut the front part of the frame off an '05 f350 and grafted it on the Ex) adding the Carli leveling kit from CJC offroad and doing an entire drivetrain swap. It spent the first 23 years of it's life with a 6.8l v10 and now it's getting a 2020 7.3l Godzilla with the 10 speed transmission. It should be done in the next few weeks and I can't wait. It should have similar power as your built 7.3 but weigh a lot less. It's going to be our family adventure rig for the next 20 years when maybe I'll have to rebuild it again :)

The bit in the hotel parking lot makes me think of the people who up and decide that they're just going to rebuild their engine right there outside the AutoZone.

My friends were the ones in the blazer that went off of it back in the late 80s early 90s. It was the most helpless feeling just waiting for everything to come to a stop before we could do anything. Jeep was very cool though. When they came out with the Rubicon they invited them to come out and drive one around for the weekend.
