Although I am a layperson (may be a pastor one day but not right now), I am from the Cincinnati area but on the Kentucky side of the river (although I go to church in Cincinnati itself) and found this last night.

I HATE this. The Te Deum is a wonderful, ancient text. It was NEVER intended to be translated into rhyming prose. Why do American Lutherans have to turn everything into a hymn, esp. the LCMS? European Lutherans no longer do this. They haven't since Luther translated the Mass into the vernacular. There is no need for this. Hymns are wonderful and fine. Sing them. But this is a liturgical text. It doesn't rhyme in the original Latin. No need to write a rhyming English text when fine English translations of it are available. When you make it into a hymn, you BUTCHER it. You have to take liberties with the text to make it rhyme. Stop it. Just stop it.
