The saddest part about Cassie is that she had to slowly turn to look like Maddie to even get Nate to notice her. Now she's stuck with a guy who wants a copy of his ex only more submissive & also lost her friends for it.

That's because it's true. Cassie is and will always be forever known for her body and her promiscuity. Every guy that she had ever met or dated only wanted to be with her not for her personality, but for her beauty and for her body. They build up Lexi to be this intellectual introvert with a creative writing genius, but the play would've been way better if she wrote it with metaphorical characters and left some room for ambiguity, rather than straight up using their real identities and life stories. This play outed Lexi as a petty mean girl in her own sniveling nerdish way.
