I was able to save about $500 dollars over the course of a few months and as a result I bought a 1916 D dime in AG 3.

Great video! I'm young, so my budget is essentially whatever I get from family members. Right now, I'm saving up to buy a coin I've wanted to buy for several years, a Liberty Head Half Eagle.

Collectors face the constant struggle not to buy. We see attractive inexpensive items and deplete our budget instead of waiting for better, more expensive pieces.
Some people deal with this by having main and secondary collections. Most of the money goes to the main collection with two or three purchases per year. The secondary collection satisfies the desire to buy something cheap and fun when you visit shops and shows. The $1, 200 example in the video might go into three $300 coins that hold value and 30 $10 coins bought essentially as recreation.

Coin collectors are notoriously impatient and impulsive. Great advice here.

Its great advice that sometimes I dont follow perhaps I should be giving myself a budget in the first place. But more expensive coins ARE easier to trade and sell and exchange quite often. Thanks Charles

Love the different approaches and it would be very wise for new collectors to take heed.

Interesting. But I wonder how many lifetimes are needed to complete the half dollar set buying 6 coins per year :-) BTW is a rhetorical question. You need to be very good to devout two decades, perhaps your entire collecting life to complete a single set.

Opting to pass is perhaps the most difficult skill to learn for stackers :) Patience makes a huge difference... Thanks for sharing :)

There's also coin roll hunting to build your collection. With just a little study you can learn to find coins you can sell for hundreds or even thousands of dollars, then use that to get the older and more expensive coins while quickly building a nice modern collection. Remember, just because new coins are modern now, they won't be down the road. Don't be one of those people who said "man I wish I would have collected back then!"

My coin dealer recommends a GSA CC Morgan Dollar for roughly $200
I have been stacking silver of building collections by buying raw 90% constitution us silver coins at my local coin store. If the price of silver rises these collections will rise. So I am blending numismatics with silver stacking
Coin roll hunting is very frustrating with all the time spent with little results

I think I need to learn to this. I already am still waiting for a nice open 3 1873 three cent nickel for my collection. Thanks

More dollars does equal better coins, but waiting three or four months in between purchases doesn't seem realistic for the impulse buyer.. However, for those who have patience, it's a good idea ! Thx for video

Very informative and interesting video. I my opinion it would all hinge on what the collector/investor is trying to accomplish. If you are investing in precious metals then I would think you would want to get the coin as close to melt as possible and not be as concerned about year and condition, such as junk silver or gold and gold or silver bullion. If this is the case it seems to buy these type of coins every week or $25 a week instead of $100 per month. The price of silver and gold is very volatile and may be much higher the next month.

If you went the other way and just saved up for an entire year you could get 1 $1200 coin such as a $20 gold piece.

Great idea, but where do I start with three cent nickel coins? How much should I be willing to spend and when?

Quality vs. Quantity. A lesson I learned very early in life. But it bears repeating. Good video!
