At the 2017 American Numismatic Association's World's Fair of Money, CoinWeek teamed up with Numismatic Guaranty Corporation to produce one of the most compelling CoinWeek IQ videos ever produced!

CoinWeek Editor Charles Morgan tests his world coin grading skills against three nationally-known world coin experts: Andy Lustig, Lance Tchor, and James Ricks of Atlas Numismatics.

The four contestants match their grading eye against that of their competitors in a 20-coin shootout, with three points awarded for grading each coin to NGC standards, two points for coming within one grade of NGC's standards, and one point for coming within two points.

There are challenging coins, tough calls, and drop dead gorgeous coins included in NGC's 20-coin selection of 19th and 20th century world coins.

Along the way, you will get to hear our experts give their insights into each of these coins... and whether their grades are right or wrong, we guaranty that you will learn a lot from this one hour program!

Amazing video. This is also why I believe grading has serious limitations and why I cannot understand the dramatic price swings by 1 point.

Great video Charles. I've done a few 'guess the grades' videos and really love them. Very interesting to see how subjective the grades can be. I commend all of the participants for having the confidence to step up to the plate and not be afraid of being embarrassed, well done. Let's see another competition with American coins next. Great fun.

This idea for coin grading competition was the best. Teased us with more to come at the end....but everyone must be scared of this kind of competition! People don't want to be exposed from one bad game or off-day and have it recorded on YouTube lol I don't know. Kudos for putting it together I agree with Larry this might be the best coin vid on YouTube. 6, 600 views is orders of magnitude too crazy low

Watching various coin videos practically daily, I have a clearer understanding of how subjective grading can be. This test involved only four numismatists in a grading challenge. Almost makes me more hesitant to submit coins for grading because my MS70 might come back as MS69.

Outstanding video CoinWeek!

The nuance involved in being able to grade world coins is amazing each mint has its own characteristics and this can change era to era as a country goes through changes in my humble opinion taking the time to go through these exercises will do you vastly more good than just sticking to the US coin Charles for the content

Really enjoyed this video. I know nothing about grading coins, but listening to the comments made as these coins were being graded gave me some insight as to what the experts are looking for when they grade a coin. Having the sidebar which shows the NGC grade helped make it more interesting for someone like me to keep this video entertaining. Seemed like these guys were all pretty close on the earlier coins and later coins, which makes me think the coins in the middle were particularly challenging to grade! Now I am curious how NGC comes up with the grade. I'll google search it, but I am guessing that NGC probably have a number of experts examine the coins and compare notes before assigning their grade of the coin?

Cool feature! More close ups of the coins for the viewer would have been nice.

It's amazing how some of the coins are graded not just 1 off but sometimes a lot more.

Only thing is lacking in this video. Photos od actual coins being graded so viewers can have a chance to guess grades themselves.

Huge missed opportunity to not include PhotoVision files along with the video so viewers could see what the experts saw. That said, this is one of the best grading videos I've ever seen and Thank You for taking the time to put it together! I hope this can become a series of sorts.

I would of given this video a thumbs up if they would show us a close up of the coin. Can't tell too much as a watcher because it's too small what they are showing us.

One quibble I have with the way this video has been edited is that the other "Guess the Grade" videos I remember have allowed viewers the ability to guess alongside the experts and then the results were revealed at the end, which I like better than us knowing the grade before they do.

that was outstanding. Very helpful for a foreign coin newbie.

Charles what I love about how you grade coins is the extra information you give us, the other guys did to but you were a tick above in my book. I live in Perth Australia and I don’t see Coin week magazine in our newsagencys, I must ask them to get it for me.

So what is really being shown here? That four highly respected experts for grading all will give different opinions on coins that were already graded by others who would likely give different opinions taking the same challenge.

When thousands of dollars can hinge on just one grade point, the subjectivity shown here by the respected experts speaks volumes.
