Australia Ancient Theme - Waltzing Matilda (Guitar)

I am not sure if I am too embarrass to admit, but the Civilization 6 version of Waltzing Matilda is my most listened to song on my MP3. There was a point where I was playing this song everyday many times over from the haunting Ancient Era versions to the rocking Atomic Era (much to the annoyance of my roommates). Waltzing Matilda has become one of my favorite songs thanks to Civ.

While the default version of this song is played with the didgeridoo and fiddle, I noticed a guitar version popping up in my games. So I dug through the game files to track it down (ended up taking a lot more time than I thought). I emailed Geoff Knorr for who to credit for the guitar solo version and he informed me the musician is Lucas Chonhany.

Credits
Based on: Waltzing Matilda by Christina MacPherson
Arranged by: Geoff Knorr
Guitar: Lucas Chonhany

This is a lovely version that I didn't even know existed in the game! All that's missing is a cup of tea and an ANZAC biscuit.

Thanks for the upload! Growing up singing this song made me love it, this version reminds me of someone playing it around a campfire.

There's something almost vaguely haunting about this one; it's a stark contrast to the rest of Australia's themes and the original song, both of which are quite cheery. This rendition is comparatively somber

Waltzing Matilda is Australia's favourite song. The arrangement of Waltzing Matilda that is played so beautifully in the video is not the tune played by Christina Macpherson when Banjo Paterson composed the words in Winton district of central Queensland in 1895. Soon after writing Waltzing Matilda Paterson sold the rights to the words to a publisher and they were purchased by the owner of the Inglis Tea Company. In 1903 James Inglis, the owner of the company, commissioned Marie Cowan, the wife of one of his managers, to rewrite Christina and Banjo's song as an advertising Jingle for Billy Tea. Marie altered some of Paterson's words and rewrote the music, simplifying it, smoothing it out with some passing notes and making it more contemporary. This is the tune played in the video.
I'll bet that you did not realize that you were advertising Billy Tea and Australians don't realize it either.

John Curtin! I speak for the people of Australia as their Prime Minister. We seek sympathetic allies in the fight against the hawks of war!
