This must be why all the English Actors say that Southern Accents are the easiest for them to emulate!

I'm Canadian and I love these accents from the southern states. They have a truly rich sound with their drawn out vowels and inflections and it doesn't matter to me whether their well educated or not. One of my favorite authors is John Grishom and as I read his novels I try to think of how his characters sound. I'd hope that no southerners are ashamed or embarrassed of their accent because they'd be doing themselves a real disservice if so.

Wow, really interesting, I love accents. The southern drawl is really really pretty.

As a native Southerner, this is a great video. I like how she talks about the UK. That explains why people with British accents tend to 'like' a southern accent more than a northern one. My cousin's British boyfriend said that we're a lot easier to understand :)

cool video. the transition from the British accent to the southern accent was very clean and clear. never looked at it like that. Southern accent can be really nice to hear. i think the south get a bad rap from the media though and people actually buy that stereotype.

I'm so confused by trying to find out this person's native accent.

This was quite interesting but it's important to note that the accents of the first generation British settlers in America sounded nothing like British accents do now. I suggest looking up British pronunciation in the 1500s or researching the Great Vowel Shift. It's very fascinating stuff.

damn, I've got to commend you on your ability to seamlessly transition from accent to accent. That is skill!

Super cool video. Very impressed with her ability to change from accent to accent. One thing I’d like to point out, however, is the inaccuracy regarding the concept she presented on the development of the French accent in Louisiana. The accent she did was a Cajun accent. She then transformed it into what is known these days as a Parisian accent. The Cajuns never spoke with a Parisian accent. The Cajun (and they weren’t known as Cajun at the time), left the northwestern portion of France for Canada in the beginning of the 1600’s. Years later, the French government tried to eliminate all of the French dialects except for the “Parisian” dialect. In the 1700’s the Cajuns (at that time they were known as Acadians) were exiled from Canada by the British. Some went back to France, some were sent down the Eastern coastline by the British into America and the Caribbean. Spain owned Louisiana and was offering Spanish land grants. They needed undeveloped areas such as Opelousas, Eunice and Lafayette settled. The Acadians made their way to Louisiana and sent word to their friends and families of where they were.
Over time, the name Acadian (pronounces “A cadjin”) morphed into what is now known as Cajun.
Long story short the Cajun dialect never sounded Parisian.

From South Carolina and people think I'm an idiot cause my accent even though I'm a Bio major on scholarship. When you grow up around it, you're going to pick it up regardless of your intelligence level .

As a non-American, the southern USA accent in Arkansas is spectacular. It's just a pleasure to listen to. It's so full of sound and detailed.

There's no single Southern accent. There are many, depending on the area in which you grew up, where your parents grew up, where you've lived a long time.

This was awesome, I wish she had gone on explaining the progression a little longer with more examples
