Use Any Canon Camera for Streaming | Plus TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

Want to stream with any Canon DSLR or Mirrorless camera without needing a capture card? Let’s go! I’ll show you how to install and set up the Canon EOS Webcam Utility app and use even DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras that don’t have a clean HDMI output as USB cameras.

I’ll also show you how to troubleshoot this app if it gives you trouble. And I will continue to update the description and pinned comment with troubleshooting tips as they become available.

TROUBLESHOOTING NOTES:
✅ There is now a Mac version!!!

As far as the issue with the EOS Utility. When EOS Utility is launched, go down to the system tray and right-click on the icon, you'll see an option that says "Do not launch EOS Utility automatically when camera is connected", select that. Now hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and open task manager, select the "Startup" tab scroll down to EOS Utility and make sure that it says "Disabled", if not, right-click and select disable. BINGO BANGO, the application won't launch on startup and won't launch when you plug the camera in, it will ONLY start when you click on the application to open it. Now you won't have to kill the program every time you wanna use your EOS as a webcam! (Will Engle)

- If you don't uninstall the EOS Utilities app, there are times when the camera will only work once and then you have to restart the computer. Canon is working on correcting this.

- Video resolution is: 1024px x 576px

- You can right-click on the EOS Utility icon in the system tray and click Exit from there as an alternative to going into task manager. (cooloox)

- For those wanting to use Skype, the camera is not detected in the Windows 10 Store App, but works flawlessly in the Skype for Desktop app downloadable from your browser. (cooloox)

- In task manager, you can go to startup tab, then disable the Eos utility in there. Your computer won’t start the program the next time you start your computer. And if you need to access the program, just start it normally from desktop shortcut or where you installed it (Dai Tran)

- you can also exit the EOS Utility app by selecting quit in the windows 10 task bar. You press the ^ button to see the background applications then right click on the EOS Utility icon and select quit. For those who may feel uncomfortable going to the task manager. Also I noticed that if I then open the EOS Utility after using it as a webcam, some of the settings are stuck in auto for the webcam functionality such as ISO, simply turn of the camera and back on and the EOS Utility will have full access again. With an SL2 (Shane Dale-Hicks)

-In case anybody is still running Windows 7 Professional like me.... You can still download the web cam utility for Windows 10 and it will work on your Windows 7 system, I just tried it and it works perfectly (Standard Graphics)

- I found I could use the webcam utility version for 77D for the T6S/760D as long as I disable the "digital Zoom" feature in the T6S/760D video mode. "Half a loaf is better than no bread" - for the time being. (Reuel T)

What's up everyone?! I hope this tutorial about how to stream with the Canon EOS Webcam Utility app was helpful. Have you tried doing this and how did it work? Let me know what you think!!

Was there too much detail? Not enough? What did you like, and also, what did you not like? What would you like to see more of? Would love to know what you think, good or bad. I am grateful in advance 🙏

You solved the black box conundrum - the deactivating the EOS utility that is blocking the webcam utility from showing the image. Thank you! No one else had the work around. The YouTube video posted by Canon totally ignored it. 👍

I've already told you this before but it's worth repeating (for anyone watching.) Your videos are always the best of the rest. Whenever I'm trying to figure something out... you're the go to guy. I'm teaching a helper at this time and I've book marked your videos that relate most for what I want her to learn, then I just set her down, turn her loose and have her watch. She never comes back with questions. You're the man. Thanx again! -keith Oh, and I still don't know your name

It's worth mentioning it's not any canon camera. Older cameras are not listed. Canon T6 and upwards

This answered every question I had about the M50 and the Webcam Utility app. I could not get that Canon title card to disappear until this video. Brilliant!

I just called Canon and they're working EOS Webcam Utility Beta for Mac also, but there isn't a release date yet.

I’m not sure if you’ll ever read this, but I would just like to say that you are a hero and a scholar. Our podcast group was trying to live stream today and we realized too late that my canon camera wasn’t compatible with the cam link HD we bought. This video and information saved our butts, thank-you!!!

I just downloaded the app and works great with my M50. It has worked great for my video calls today, and I can now retire my old Logitech webcam. Great content. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.

Awesome ! I just installed the software following your instructions, and use it with my M50. It works smoothly. Thanks for the thorough tutorial.
PS: When using Elgato Camlink4K, is anyone also having the issue of the display going black after 30min ? Any work-around (except using the Canon utilities shown in this video) ?

Thanks for the great video! Can it output HDMI whilst outputting the USB signal? Ideal for external monitor use

Thank you very much for youre advice in case of a "black screen with the EOS ad instead of the right picture", I searched for this solution for a long time, now youve given it to me, thank you very much! :) :)

If using this setup with a Blue Yeti mic (or similar), the mic would be plugged into the PC and not the M50, correct? I've seen conflicting information on this. Thanks! :)

This is a game changer! Question: If you had to get one for streaming, which would you recommend: M50 or 90D?
