Hungry driven Elephants break the electric fence which obstruct their route

Hello, welcome back to out you tube channel. Today we just observe the behavior of Elephants. Here you can see a giant Elephant. He has just crossed a canal. And look around. He is literally on a garbage pit. Loads of food wastes, polyethene are gathered here. This has become a common sight to the neighboring villagers. Without proper plans, local government has establish landfill on the border of wildlife protected zone. Most of the forest areas have been cleared by the people for building houses and cultivate crops. This has caused habitat destruction and reduce the food availability for elephants and other animals. Therefore hungry elephants tend to visit the landfills in search of food. Unlike the other wild animals elephants need huge amount of food daily, proportionate to their larger body size. Normally an adult elephants eat about 300 pounds of foods daily.
The location we are looking in this video is a garbage pit and the Elephants have to reach this place by crossing a small river and an Elephant fence. According to the villagers, the Elephants constantly visits this garbage pit in search of food. But is it good for them?
The elephants eat plastic and polythene that are mixed with the food particles among the rubbish. Swallowed plastic fills the stomach and not surprisingly, this reduces the feeling of hunger. Animals eat less, obtain less energy and weaken. Larger pieces of plastic and polythene can block their gastrointestinal tract. So that the plastics and polythene can no longer be excreted.
This is really a sad situation. With the clearing of forests for the development and agricultural purposes, the Elephants have lost their food habitats which made them starve to death. They really have no option other than eating wastes like this or eating crops of people. But the people too sometimes chase them away. This makes them helpless. If animals could talk, they will say how unfair the world is. And that is the sad truth behind this.
After filling their stomachs they slowly reached to the river. They drink water from the river and enjoy the cooling power of water by drowning in the river. With elephants being so large, they need lots of water to stay hydrated! Elephants can drink up to 50 gallons of water every day. This amount of water is equivalent to the size of bath tub. That is why these animals are always on the move in the wild.
Here we can see the Elephants has crossed the river and some have even crossed the Elephant fence. Again. If electric fences are properly maintained, they have been shown to be effective in minimizing human-elephant conflict. Normally these fences are not electrocuted in the day time.
The fences are electrocuted in night time to protect the houses and cultivations of the villagers from unexpected invasion of elephants in the night time. However, elephants who damage the fence wire also let other elephants to pass through, allowing them to move on to the surrounding farms and villages. Those elephants that cause damage to crops or property which in turn bring them a risk of being slaughtered in retaliation by furious farmers.
Few of the Elephants crossed the fence and few remained. The intelligence level of Elephants are very high. Usually before crossing, they check for the Electricity availability in the wires and break the fence at the end. Elephants are exceptionally smart creatures. They have the largest brain of any land animals and three times as many neurons as humans. While many of these neurons exist to control the elephant’s large and dexterous body, these creatures have demonstrate their impressive mental capabilities time and time again.
Habitat destruction is the major threat to the Asian elephant. We are running out of time and the protection of elephants is now more urgent than ever. They are irreplaceable.
