Awesome Daily Vocal Warm Ups - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy

I can't tell you how many times I get people who ask me if they could get more and more difficult singing exercises (as tough more difficult exercises were supposed to make you a better singer).

This concept is wrongheaded for many reasons.

My first instrument is guitar. I know pretty much every scale imaginable, and could easily dole out those scales like candy.

But will singing every scale imaginable make me a better singer?
Certainly not if I'm singing those scales incorrectly.

And the more difficult the scale, the more the person needs the basic building blocks necessary to hold up those scales or have the strength and stamina to sing them.

The most important thing we can do with our warm-ups is to have simple scales first that embed good muscle-memory for Open Throat Technique and the correct shaping of vowels.

In this video, I walk you through some non-negotiable basics for singing that must be grasped first, in order to move on to the next level of more difficult exercises for agility and range.

Doing these warm-ups correctly, daily, will establish the correct muscle-memory, strength, and stamina to build a strong singing voice.

I recently purchased your singing course, and I’m very happy I made that decision. Had two twelve hour days driving across the country and I probably spent 1/3 of that time doing exercises with you. Gotta say Ken you’re a great passenger!

I just did your warm ups and it really helps broaden your ability to execute pleasant tones. I was a featured church soloist for years and have been back at my home church now for 3 years. I followed the requirements to be a soloist, i.e., try out and give testimony about my salvation. My heart attitude is appropriate about WHY I want to sing again. I had a collection of favorite songs I loved that meant a lot to me but the rule is that if someone else has done one of “my” songs while I was gone, then you cannot sing that song. The rationale being that people in the congregation will not compare singers doing the same song. I understand that. So, I asked our director if he would let me do some of the solo parts of the new octavos we might do and he said yes. But new ones have come and he still chooses his favorite people to do them when they are parts that I could do easily and really speak to me. There are many people in my church that remember me and have asked me about why don’t I sing again. I have said all this to say that I was asked to sing a special song for a friend whose husband just passed away (because it was his favorite song). It has been done by another friend in regular church service and she is fine with me doing it at the funeral service. Ken, I have not done a solo in 25 years, it’s a new song for me and I’m nervous! The choir director will be there too. I n my heart, I want to sing my best for my friend. But truly, part of me wants to show my director that he is hiding my candle so to speak. God has given me a talent that used to bless people, but he apparently thinks I’m not good enough to be a soloist on a Sunday morning. I feel that my calling is to reach people for the Lord through my life, and the deliverance of messages in the songs. I have no other axe to grind. I know your testimony and I’m asking for prayers for God to sing through me this Saturday, March 11. I will continue to do your videos because of your testimony for God and vocal teachings.

Thank you so much Ken! You are the first teacher to really make the message go in, relaxation, support, breath and repeat. I am really new to singing and suck at it, but already doing it better and putting in the work!❤

Dear Mr Ken Tamplin, I love your work, and you are, definitely, changing lives. May I say I can hardly wait to meet you? I've got some projects in the UK, and there's one very close to my heart where you are, inadvertently, in it. Some projects are on my LinkedIn profile, not all. Have a lovely rest of your day. Best wishes

I recently watched one of your warm-up videos and found it very interesting. I have a question regarding the vocal registers used in the warm-up.

Could you please clarify if, during the exercise, you are primarily singing within one register and pulling the chest voice upwards, or if there is a transition occurring between the chest voice and the head voice?

Brings back meager beginnings from 2017. Here in WV, where we pipe in sunshine, get home by grapevine, no internet in the state forest where I practice, so I had put all the audio on cassette (MUCH easier to cue).I wanted to skip the warm ups, go straight to my newest project BUT?...I KNEW I needed these and needed ta "pay my dues vocally" just as I had for instruments in the 60s/70s. (STILL PAYIN...lol) Gang ! if ya start this venture, DO NOT shirk these warm ups... Do them ALL ....SLOW... not hurryin thru them. Let Kens R brain exps work their magic on ya. (PING is KING... match HIS timbre )The results will start showin up in your arrs' when ya least expect it?... Simply MAGIC, once muscle memory takes over using proper vowel mods for phrasing.😎

I love your videos and they really help me learn more about music! Is there any way you could make a YouTube video with warmups for people who sing alto and/or low harmony?
