Back in the 90s, sales of Lego massively slumped. That was until they introduced Bionicle, and then the classic Star Wars sets.
These ranged in price from $6-$90 and became hugely popular…

But the thing about these sets was the fact that they would retire sets every few years.
Demand would go up, and the resale market became massive.
But retail prices seem ridiculous, right?
A millennium falcon in 2007 cost $500, which was $0.10 per piece of lego.
But in 2017, they released a brand new version which cost $850, at around $0.11 per piece. When these prices are adjusted for inflation, the new one is actually cheaper per piece, but the amount of pieces and complexity has increased.
The more pieces, the more complex, the more expensive. Hopefully that explains Why Is Lego SO Expensive
