...but, but, but--when you finally can't put off that hip replacement any longer, you'll be so glad you had it done. Like a new lease on life. I can once again do things that I haven't been able to do in years, like walk the course when I golf.

Couldn’t agree more. You have to get a second opinion. I had a diagnosis after x rays for arthritis in both hips and Dr offered pain relief and surgery which I didn’t want. My physio recommended swimming and a range of exercises. I took his advice and six years on - pain has 99% gone/no need for pain relief. May not work for everyone (and it may not last) but its important to know there may be other options to either pills or surgery.

Scheduled for hip surgery in a few weeks. I’ve tried it all, and after several years of increasing pain - it’s time.
Wish me luck!!

Definitely have had several opinions over the last 10 years. Went to an orthopedic surgeon only to discover that the arthritis in the right hip has remained the same for 10 years no progression even with 3 traumas to the hip. Will definitely watch more videos thank you.

Thank you for discussing the fact that normal aging always causes pain and that images are not always an accurate indicator of why someone has pain. Surgery always has risk. Why not start with the least risky options and be a bit patient. New research out of Australia indicates that joints like load bearing....Tasha Stanton, a researcher, says the new mantra is "wear and repair" rather than "wear and tear".

I had a total replacement 10 years ago on the left hip and it was great for about 2 years, but it's back to how it was in the beginning, I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't had the operation and the state it would be in now, most people I talk to say they have never looked back after the op, but it didn't happen for me

You need to distinguish between bone on bone and mild arthritis. Bone on bone means no cartilage and bones are grinding. No PT can restore cartilage.

I had foot pain for years. PT didn't help. My podiatrist wanted to do surgery for plantar fasciitis. I mentioned to my chiropractor and in a matter of seconds she put my ankle in place. It must have been out for years. I mention this because you would have thought a podiatrist would have noticed!

Hello all. After 20 years of pain on left side, hip, pelvic area causing me limping, which I was sure was muscular and was relieved by lying on hard vinyl futon, yet it always returned from sitting on cushioned desk chairs or walking, I have finally found accidentally both a cause and a cure. I happened to see a senior's exercise video with various stretches which "cooled down" with a stretch of sitting on the edge of a hard dining room chair, while stretching the left leg backward, I can feel a wonderful stretch. Seems as if searching for a perfect cushioned desk chair is the CAUSE. I am walking normally, no need for Xrays! Yay!

Please consider autoimmune folks. I was an athlete all my life until my autoimmune diseases hit me at 28. I’m now 38.

Thank you. I’ll take a look at these videos. I’m 70 and have had intermittent groin pain with exercise for a few years. My pt finally recommended seeing an orthopedic dr for an mri. It revealed mild arthritis. I plan to exercise my way through this!

It is very difficult to know what needs stretching and what needs exercise. I respect your efforts to help

I love your comments #5 about heredity & lifestyle. Not sure who said it, heredity may load the gun but lifestyle can pull the trigger. Worth investigating for sure. We may live 10, 20, or 30 more years, why not live it as healthy as we can? Thanks Bob and Brad! :)

Thank you Bob & Brad. I did not exercise for 7 weeks and sat all days (due to neck lift from aboard and doctor told me not to exercise). Then one days I had a bad pain radiate from top of my leg to lower leg. The neurologist surgeon thought it was from muscle tighten up. If I exercise it should go away.

I went to physiatrist for pain medicine - he looked at x-ray and said i had severe hip arthritis. I was depressed though I had no hip pain at all. After a month of work out, my pain was gone. I think about hip replacement from the word - severe hip arthritis. I think that. It is more like nerve pain or periformis syndrome.

Thank you for your video. I know that I do not have to rush to surgery or hip replacement. Just wait and see a little longer.

Bob and Brad my favourite physiotherapists on the Internet in my opinion of course. Once again your timing is perfect. I was diagnosed with OA in my hips and intrusive therapy were recommended including hip replacement. 2 weeks of Pilates and I’m on the mend.

I’m almost done with my 2 month course of PT for a severe herniated disc in my L4-L5 making me immobile and losing control of bladder/bowel function and it has been unbelievably helpful. Not only is my back pain manageable, I rarely take ibuprofen, but my balance is better than before the herniation despite having preexisting neuropathy. While I might need surgery down the line, I’m extremely pleased with the the results of physical therapy, this is coming from someone who had major skepticism as my pain and problems were so severe. The only thing that still bothers me is some tightness in my right SI joint. I was wondering if you guys had any videos specifically related to loosening/getting the SI joints more mobile? It feels inflamed more than tight, but I’m unsure if that’s actually what’s going on. Thanks so much for your helpful and compassionate content!
