UK Home Secretary Priti Patel has signed off on the order to extradite Nirav Modi, wanted in India on fraud and money laundering charges related to the estimated USD 2-billion Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case, senior Indian diplomatic sources in the UK said on Friday. Modi, 50, who remains behind bars at Wandsworth Prison in southwest London, has 14 days to apply for permission to appeal against the Home Secretary’s order in the High Court in London. Back on February 25, the Westminster Magistrates’ Court had concluded that the diamond merchant has a case to answer before the Indian courts, leaving the sign off on the order with the Cabinet minister.

This is huge since he only the 2nd or 3rd guy who is extradited back to India unless he appeals against the order.

Nothing is going to happen. These sort of things we hear during election times in India. West Bengal is a key state BJP is desperate to win, such statements are engineered by vested interests. Once elections are over everything is forgotten & it's back to square one. Public memory is too short . It's a close fight in Bengal & contest is going neck & neck between BJP & TMC. Whoever wins the opposition in the assembly will be strong unlike the results of 2016. The winning party in assembly cannot comfortably pass bills due to strong opposition & ruling party will be careful & on its toes all the time. This is good for democracy as a strong opposition is a must for any democracy for ensuring checks & balances on ruling party for the larger good of the people in general...
