Yess, I absolutely make my list in order of the stores layout.
Household items first.
Frozen/produce last. Everything else in between.
When checking out - frozen and cold items first, and all household items seperated from food. 😅

Have you considered putting some herbs in containers to grow? It would take much time out of your day with kids ( I remember those days) and you’re such a great cook I think you’d like the fresh herbs.
