10 years ago laptops came with socket so gpu and cpu could be change with out problems, like the video

Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge, really learned alot from this. Pls keep posting these tutorials video, you're really helping lots of technicians out there.

Good video, you can do the same test without removing the coils by using an esr meter. The esr meter will see the coils as high resistance, so if you measure from each side of the coil, you will see where the short to ground is.

Not good.
Somtimes cpu having 2, 5 ohm on Gt Vcc and is Bad 😢.
Bad cpu on the Vcc Gt section .
😊

Finally found another good troubleshooting channel. Awesome!!

Some gpu resistance to ground is less than .1 ohm, especially more recent models, separating the coils can help find mosfet issues though in these cases

You can convert that to discreet to uma. The gpu is kill, you can put working the CPU only with Intel graphics card only. ;) not for gaming but for work and surf on net will do it ... ;)

Hi, GPU? I have no BSD or artifacts but when i turn on, the screen either has picture normal or totally black- tried hot and cold no diff. . I have swapped out CPU, Ram, PS (19V good anyway at mosfets) When it does work, Video plays normal for about 5 mins then gets jittery like frames dropping out. NO ERRORS or BSD. MB will stay on forever and fans spin as usual. Could it be PS around GPU or only GPU? Already changed paste, pads ect and heatsink was clear. Thanks

a lot of gpu's are having very low resistance, expecially the new models

Nice video thanks. I have a question - the short can still come from the caps that are between the CPU and the coils you removed. You need to remove CAPS too ? I was curious also if cutting some traces is an option to avoid removing so many components ...

Hello. Mini PC on Intel n100. When turned on, the screen is black, the fan rotates, the radiator heats up, and it consumes about 14W from the outlet (TDP of processor 6); during normal operation, it seems to have consumed about 20W. But even when turned off, it consumes about 10 W and the processor heatsink gets very hot. Processor to be replaced? Can the processor heat up when turned off and consume 10W from the outlet when the processor is alive?

Thank you for the video! In some cases though it is normal to have very low resistance around GPUcore or Vcore. In these cases, continuity mode will be a false positive. It may still be worth checking the buck converter itself. I've had this several cases when it was the PWM controller or MOSFET faulty despite a "short" on the Vcore side according to the multimeter.

Have E1 571. Power light after a few seconds. CPU GPU PCH integrated chips heats up but then cycles. Coil feeding 1.8v GPU is about 80 ohm. And same resistance on CPU 1.05v coil. Only thing I can think is internal CPU GPU fault and system power cycles. Resistance between GPU and CPU coils is 150ohm. Should that be more or open line ? For integrated chip ?

What is meant by the term live boot ok concerning a laptop advertisement?

Board is Dell Alienware laptop 15 R4, 99.9% Mosfet always fails and make CPU or gpu blow up (destroyed by overvoltage) by design when you change the old battery with new 100% charged voltage. Designed Deprecation

The board will still work like that. It will run off the intel graphics. Done it many times

I have a hp omen 15 motherboard with i7-7700hq. I measured on cpu vcore side 0, 1ohm, with lifted up coils. This is 100% core short to ground, or bad ceramic capacitor?
I injected 0, 8V 3A(maximum of power supply), but when i switch on the power supply the voltage was only 0, 3v. Nothing hot
