There's a lot of discussion on whether jujitsu or wrestling is best for self defense, but honestly they complement each other so well. Jujitsu is built around the idea you're defending against an attacker, while wrestling generally works around you being the "aggressor." Masters of both are beautiful to watch

(Edit: Jeez, some of you guys just can't resist shitting on others can you)

In bjj every takedown puts you at risked of being choked 😂

Double leg is the simplest but arguably the hardest take down to master. Just takes a ton of mat time.

In wrestling with a double leg, once u get your arms around you need to push with your head up and to the opposite side of your head it could also stop from getting stuck in that gillutine in hi jitzu

I don’t know why people talk about bjj vs wrestling on which is better? It’s very simple. There is fighting and then there is martial arts. Fighting doesn’t care for your preference on favorite techniques or “artistic” approach, it will demand whatever technique is the most efficient at the time to use regardless if it’s in any of the 3 realms of striking, grappling, or weaponizing. If it’s martial arts, you can obviously just focus on your favorite techniques for “artistic” reasons in competition, meditation, etc. If you want to compete though against other grapplers, and it’s in the martial arts realm/perspective, you will need some objectivity, which would mean that if you prefer the ground, you will still have to learn wrestling, but if prefer standup, you will have to learn how to do ground techniques in case you go to the ground. But of course, that’s where “rules” comes into play. The limitations is where the beauty lies and that will vary from person to person.

Double leg is cool but man do I love the blast double😍

To avoid the choke it all depends on head position. As long as it is glued to there ribs high enough that the crown of you head is in the armpit then you should be fine. Another thing I do is run my hips to the opposite side of my head on the way down so if they do go for the choke then your head will already be transitioning to their stomach. Should be perpendicular with them when you get to the ground. If you are parallel then you can get choked.

I tend to find a blast double is more effective in BJJ.

Blast double should be the only one used in jits, head driving thru the center of the torso instead of going to one side

I’ve always found when shooting for a double leg if I keep my chest up and head pressed into the center of the body that it’s a lot less likely they choke you or stuff the take down
