TL:DR I was attacked by a black mamba as a kid

My dad was a photographer and he needed a python for an upcoming shoot. He got in touch with one of the reptile keepers at our local zoo. This guy had a huge basement converted into snake habitats. My dad being the guy he was thought "hey my 3 year old likes animals, I am going to take her with me and leave her completely unsupervised while I talk to this guy."

So they get to talking and I wander around. I pressed my face to one of the Plexiglas enclosures because I couldn't see what was in there. Happened to be a black mamba! He saw lunch. He struck so hard that he cracked the Plexiglas. To this day I can still see that mouth coming at me. For some reason I was hysterical and had to be carried out to the car - where my dad left me by myself for another hour while he went back in to talk to the guy.

Venomous snakes are fabulous pets with kids! 100% recommend if you want your child to be terrified of snakes! I finally got over my fear in my late 20's when I became an exotics vet tech, and now I am a member of my local herp society. And the zookeeper is part of it too. I don't think he recognizes me though and I don't want to do the "So, 25 years ago your black mamba tried to eat me"...

Everytime i see a video of a keeper filming their boomslang, it never coils up, looks nervous, backs away or waits to see if they mean to harm it. It just immediately strikes once it thinks they're in range. (Followed by the "F*** you lookin at? You want some?" Staredown afterwards) I can only assume that species is REALLY confident in their venom. Havent looked up their spot on the most dangerous snakes list, but im sure that confidence comes from somewhere.
