Too Good To Go is OVERRATED because companies are ABUSING it

Too Good To Go is an awesome idea for a food service/app. Food companies can put their leftover stock on there, or food that would need to be thrown out at the end of the day - and instead of the food going to waste, we consumers can buy it! Except some companies are abusing it....

They are cancelled because there was no waste. That makes more sense than the company 'intentionally producing waste' for the bags.

'for the price you can't complain' and then proceeds to complain for the entire video 😂

The worst experiences have been Food Trucks and independent greengrocers. Both of which will hold on to food for as long as possible - way past its use by date, and then put it in a magic bag. I got a box of fruit & veg from an indie greengrocers once, and *every single item* was mouldy. They should have binned it 3 or 4 days previously, but instead passed it off to me. The chain shops tend to be a lot better, only because they have no control over how much stock comes in. So they’ll get rid of perfectly good food, with weeks on the use by date, only because they have to make space for the new stuff their HQ has delivered. My best bag was from a chain of chocolate shops - I paid £7 and got £40 worth of (Easter) chocolate! Everything had 5 months before it went off.

Yeh the point is preventing food wastage not another means of improving sales

TGTG could work if the app allowed more open reviews. For example: Posting your own pictures of takeaway food or using your own words instead of standard answers for reviews.

Now users can't really point out what might be wrong with takeout food. You can only see the low score.

The so-called 'help desk' is not really approachable either. At least I don't have a good experience with it. Often I don't even got an answer.
I got so fed up with it that I don't use TGTG anymore.

My gripe is them listing it as say £3.99 and having the value of £12.49 crossed out or whatever - then you proceed to get half the size of what a normal portion is, plus everything looks a bit sad and tiresome. A genuine customer wouldn't pay full price for what you receive so I don't see why it can be listed as such

Feel the pain, I went to local Toby Cavery expected a decent meal for 3.29(7.29)because I didn't eat dinner I was hungry so ordered 2 portions - collection was 8:45 and each box got few slice of meat - one of each meat and 3 small roast potatoes and abit of random veggies... ate both boxes and had to order a Chinese.. Cafe Nero not good experience for me. I did got some good moments like some of the Ibis hotels which has buffet breakfast so the leftovers gives you a good amount each time, one of the Ibis hotel just gave me a box and took me to the buffet area and let me fill up what ever I wanted.

Go for the 4.5 or higher rated places. They always give you amazing deals. Last night I got 6 huge donuts for $5 here in L.A....

The way it works is companies always tend to know when they are most likely to have stock that would go to waste. So just before closing or moving from breakfast to lunch for example. However placing the order is not a guarantee as like you said they won't know if they have stuff left over in advance. It's basically pot luck on if you get it and what you get.

The cancellations are when there isn't as much leftover food as normal, it sucks but it makes sense if the food is genuinely going to be chucked otherwise. Greggs are a good one on Too Good To Go if you can get one, for about 3 quid you usually get two boxes of donuts / yumyums, some sandwiches, some sausage rolls and a few other bits. Well worth the hassle of it sometimes being cancelled imo!

I know a lass in a local bakery saying they take orders in advance but if there isn’t enough then they cancel it or that’s what she said

I do feel some companies are just using it to sell a couple more of meals every day and aren't actually putting in the genuine leftovers from the day.

I got a bag from a local cafe out of curiosity and one of the "breakfasts" they put in was two slices of buttered bread topped with tinned mushrooms and a fried egg... 😂

I couldn’t agree more. Some places when you order. Surprise bag you get a meals. It’s disappointing. Although I must say that when I was living in San Francisco, this was not the problem. Surprise bags were a surplus of food and the meal bags were indeed meal bags. But here in Madrid I feel taken advantage of.

Sir how bookings work is you pay upfront for it and they prioritize in the line of orders so for example if they had 3 leftover bags, they'll hand over 3 to the first ordering people and cancel the rest of the order and refund. Hence why cancellation. This might be tad annoying but they do this in order to actually be super cautious just in case they have leftover bags but nobody orders that late

I ordered this months ago and it was stuffed with food, but I tried recently and it’s horrible now!

I got to the shop, having ordered a sorry, we aren't offering any bags tonight. Our system is blank.' The app still says TWO bags are available.
A wasted journey!
Saving food waste, but wasting carbon/fuel/TIME etc.

I think you've misunderstood the actual use of the app which is kinda funny because you know its about stopping food waste. Something that's going to try and stop food waste isn't going to be perfect.

We'll take Greggs as an example.

They'll have a daily forecast of how much they think they will sell. But that's just a forecast. Some days they will run out of sausage rolls at 3pm and need to put more in the oven, other days the forecast will be pretty good and other days you might have 30 sausage rolls left at 5pm when you close at 6. It's impossible to get it correct.

So let's say they close at 6, they would need to see how much is left, decide how many bags they can make, list the amount on the app, make the bags up all while doing the usual cleaning down.

So this is why they list the bags the day before and after a certain time the next day, all they have to do is tell the app if they have nothing left which is why they are cancelled. These bags that are put on the day before will be based off the forecast I mentioned.

It's not ideal but surely the best for the workers.

What annoys me about Too Good To Go, is the likes of Morrisons who mark their food down. So something that is £3 might be marked down to 50p but the app takes the full price as counting towards the bag total. So if the bag is worth £6, you'd get 2 x £3 item were as if you had gone to Morrisons you'd get 12 x the items for the same price.

The app is food that is left over sometimes companies sell out so they cancel orders. Next day orders are based on estimates using predictions.
I don't think you understand what the app actually is.

My first experience with the app I ordered a bag, got in my car & drove accross town. Only to be told they didn't have anything and told me to submit a refund in the app. I gave them a 1 star. My experience with other places were good. There is a burrito place on the app in my area that has a 2 star review, so clearly some companies get it and other just straight up don't.
