Hey David. I would love to see a 2023 updated take on Incentive Variants. I've gotten really into Ratio Incentives this last year. Even though the exact Print run is not specified, we know on a 1:100 it is at least 100x more rare than the A Cover and other Standard Order Variants. Hell, even 1:25 incentives are 25x more rare! I just got the Darth Vader (2015 series) #25 final issue 1:100 Joe Quesada Incentive CGC SS 9.8 signed by Quesada for $80 and the current Dan Slott Spider-Man series #1 1:25 Stegman Incentive 3x Signed CGC SS 9.8 for $92. Both were from auctions. I coudn't get them signed & Graded myself cheaper even.

When I got back into comics in Aug 2020 after a 2 year hiatus after ASM 801 came out, I got sucked into Store Exclusives, especially Clayton Crain's art. For the most part, I got out of the Exclusive game in Fall 2021. I collect a few for artists I like, but I won't drop $50 retail for one with a 1K print run. I'd rather get 10 $4.99 cover price Variants from artists like Ryan Stegman or Skottie Young.

I saw a distributor give a shop owner a big handful of 1:200 variants out of a case when he was there; no counting, check & balances, responsibility, etc.

I have one at least one copy of each of Mile High Comics exclusive variants (2 each of Avengers & Spider-Man Nos. 666).

Really enjoying this channel. One of my favorite's at the moment. Good to see your numbers are going up. I was thinking of sending comics to CGC for investment & to sell but not sure if its worth it as im in the U.K.

Simplest terms a shop needs to buy a certain amount of copies to get that specific ratio variant

What are your opinion on 2nd, 3rd and so on print runs? Initially they sell for the same cover price as the 1st print but when a key is hot and appreciates in value I notices the other prints don't appreciate as much. I only buy them because it's cheaper to buy than cover A but I don't know how well they do in the long run. I have seen a CGC 9.8 of Ultimate Fall Out issue 4 (first appearance of Miles Morales) for $250 but it's one of it's variant printing hence the cheaper price.

Completely agree that I'd rather have the X of XXXX printed versus the ratios. I still get some of the ratios when I can though, heh.

I also wonder about variants that are sold directly from the artists. J. Scott Campbell seems to sell the same copies on his site that the stores get (but signed I guess), but someone like Jeehyung Lee I can't tell how many of his get printed. Does the artist actually have to order a hundred copies of a comic to get his/her 1:100 variants to resell?

We know variant covers are a nightmare to comic shops.

This book was the book that started the collectors bug Back I haven’t seen it like that since the 90s ! 2010 to 2018 even till now I call it the current golden age and slot did a lot for comics it was crazy in nyc I have a news paper that had dan on the cover they didn’t like that he killed peter but it made for the best 100 book run & superior Spider-Man that is going to be some movie & now diamond lets u pick so if u buy 100 copies u can get 2x 1:50 or 1x1:100 or 10 1:10 5x1:25 Maybe back then but they use to retailers incentives bagged and boarded and on the back was a sticker that said 1:25 1:100 and the artist Idk why they stopped that good video and great book to show

What about the 1:1000 and 1:2000 variants? Who's going to order that many to get those books?

Okay, so I have a question... How do I know which of the variants belong to a particular print run?

For example, my local shop just reopened after a year long closure - so I went to pick up Batman Three Jokers and of course there are 15 covers... I wanted to grab the original cover and the 1st variant but didn't know how to tell which one of the variants is the first variant...wish it would tell you somehow

i mean, its not so much a "bonus" as retailers are still on the hook to pay for them.

What does everyone think of the Clone Wars 1 variant? The first Asoka Tano limited to 1000 copies. Less than 80 CGC 9.8s I believe.
