India was never a communist state. Yes some regions of India had prominence of Communists. In fact Communists always remained the major opposition followed by their decline so much so that they have no relevance in the country now.

Communism can only work if there are honest leaders. Kerala in India had the true form of communism. They fought against discrimination and caste system. They fought against the idea that low caste women weren’t allowed to cover there upper body. They fought against lower caste not allowed to enter temples. The current communist party is corrupted and the leaders are bad. But from the 1920’s to about 2000 there was a period where true communist like AKG, EMS and Krishna Pillai fought for equality. Kerala went from one of the worst and poorest states to the state with highest literacy, best HDI etc.

That explains how they became friends with Russia.

I am from West Bengal, India. Communists ruled here for 34 years. The longest democratically elected communist government in the world. It started in 1977 and ended in 2011 when TMC came in power. However, TMC is also leftist. Its leftist liberal. Not communist. By the way, India is still a socialist country. Although it is suppressed by current central government. The communist parties are also part of the opposition alliance along with other liberal parties.

What?? That’s not true. Although, India had a closed economy, licensing requirements for industries, centralized planning and 5 year plans for the economical development just like socialist economy but that was the need for the country. India’s political system was democratic. Elections were democratic. And it started opening its economy shorty after china did. “India was not a communist state, although its policies were socialist”

Indian communism had some indirect influences on the Russian Revolution, particularly through the spread of Marxist ideas, which found resonance in various parts of the world, including India. Here are a few aspects where Indian communism had an influence:

1. Marxist Ideology: The Indian communist movement, which took inspiration from Marxism and Leninism, was shaped by the writings and ideas coming from Europe, including Russia. Indian communists, like those from the Indian Communist Party, were influenced by the events of the Russian Revolution, even if they were not directly involved in it.

2. Anti-Colonial Struggles: The Indian independence movement against British colonial rule had a significant impact on communist ideas in India. Communists in India saw parallels between the oppression of the Indian masses and the economic exploitation witnessed in Russia. Some Indian communists, like M.N. Roy, even sought to blend the ideas of Marxism with Indian national struggles, laying the groundwork for post-revolutionary socialist movements, which later found some echo in the Bolshevik approach.

3. The Role of the Peasantry: While the Russian Revolution was fundamentally a workers' revolt, the Indian communist movement began to emphasize the importance of the peasantry, a reflection of the agrarian-based society in India. Lenin’s theories on the role of the peasantry influenced Indian communist thought, where the focus shifted towards mobilizing peasants as a key part of the revolutionary struggle.

4. The Influence of M.N. Roy: M.N. Roy, a key figure in Indian communism, was directly involved in the international communist movement. His early exposure to Marxist ideas in Europe and his time spent in the Soviet Union allowed him to bring back influences from Russian Marxist thought to India. Roy was even involved in discussions with Soviet leaders and had a significant role in shaping early Indian communist thought.

5. Soviet Support to Indian Communists: After the success of the Russian Revolution, the Soviet Union played a key role in spreading Marxism globally. Through the Comintern (Communist International), the Soviet Union helped foster the growth of communist movements in colonized nations, including India. Indian communists found support in the form of funding, literature, and guidance from Soviet Russia, which helped shape their revolutionary approaches.

While Indian communism did not directly influence the Russian Revolution (as it was a largely homegrown movement in Russia), it certainly absorbed ideas from it and contributed to the global spread of Marxist-Leninist thought.

Capitalism is the future, while communism finished within a short period of time.

When will the Kerala learn, while other nearby states are different from them 😂
