"Stannis would make a terrible king, most likely. He lacks a feeling for the common humanity which he is supposed to rule."

*Bran wins the throne*

Now I understand why Stannis was so poorly done in the show! The show makers don't understand that character...

“Creatively it made sense to us, because we wanted it to happen. " D&D, ladies and gents!

My enemies would have me known as a terrible man. I do not need to defend myself. My actions speak louder than their words.

WTF, what was Dan reading? Renly was a narcissist who only cared about his own image. He wasn't the hero of the people. Especially since he tried to starve out Kings Landing.

Stannis is probably the most well suited to be King out of anyone. He combines the honorable code of Nedd Stark and the political skills of Tywin Lannister quite well.

But most importantly, he wants to be King for the people's sake, not his. You'd think making the author a co. producer would solve all the problems that typically come from novel portrayals, but there are still a lot of flaws, including ruining Stannis. I hope they plan to develop his character as he should be.

D&D logic:
Cersei = Incest = Good
Stannis = Justice = Bad

Danaerys = Nude scenes + Dragons = 3 Dimensional character

David and Dan really don't understand a lot of the characters in the series. This series would be much better if the producers were different, IMO.

Lacks feeling for common humanity...Let me get my books here...Ah, yes.

Stannis castrates any man in his army who rapes.
He expresses multiple times his intention to remove corruption in the court.
He promoted Davos to the rank of knight, a very rare thing for a commoner. Later he makes him a Lord and his Hand of the King.
He holds Davos' council equal to Melisandre's.
He believes every highborn should answer to the same laws as the smallfolk.
He believes that the smallfolk should be just as worthy of reward as the highborn in his army.

Renly believes he should be king because he has the bigger army, which is essentially strong arm rule, and has led to some of the bloodiest periods of instability in history.

Fuck you guys.

I never realised there was video evidence of D&D saying they despise Stannis, now i've found it.

They should be neutral about their favorites as show directors, write it as it is in the book. They do not like Stannis so they ruin his character in the show smh

Yeah, they don't understand Stannis at all. Book Stannis is all about duty and justice. Everyone else wants to rule. For Stannis, it's his duty to do so, which makes him a better potential king than most. He also barely tolerates Melisandre sometimes. She doesn't control him.

They also don't understand Brienne either. They had her murder an unarmed man in a gruesome way in the TV series. Book Brienne was still wondering if she was even capable of killing in self-defence at this point, that her humanity might make her hesitate and get her killed.

Or Tormund. He's a cheerful, older man, who always liked Jon Snow, advises him well and is amused by the situations they find themselves in.

i don't get mad easy but what they said about Stannis make me furious he is the one true king and only person who cares about the white walkers aka the real threat

"murdered his brother."

Wait, WHAT?  Renly was a traitor in arms.  YES, A TRAITOR.  There is no way around it, he tried to usurp the crown from his brother.  They are enemies in a war.  How is killing Renly considered murder?  Sure, it's an assassination, but killing a foe is killing a foe.  It's not like he killed him under a peace banner.  These guys clearly do not like Stannis, and for some UNGODLY reason WORSHIP Renly.

In the book Renly, was VERY cold to Catelyn, and promised to her that Stannis would set an example for her son about "How I deal with traitors".  He even goes as far as to FORBID Catelyn from leaving until she sees him kill Stannis.  That's right KILL, NOT murder Stannis.  Though I guess for Stannis it's murder since they don't like him.  Bottom line, Renly is a fucking douche bag in the books with 0 redeeming qualities.  Yet the show tries to turn him into a saint.

I really dont understand how the showrunners could fundamentally misunderstand these two major characters. the fact is renly would NOT have made a good king. he would have been the type to foster corruption and misrule due to the fact that he is himself an amoral person. his dealings with ned stark makes that abundantly clear. stannis on the other promotes people not based on their birth nor because they tell him what they want to hear, he promotes the most qualified and honest, the fact that he made davos his hand makes this point so glaringly obvious. Do you guys not understand that renlys view on kingship sets the realm up for countless civil wars??? If any person with a large army can take the throne whats to stop anyone from doing this?? It would be anarchy. Renly does not care about the common person he only cares about himself. Stannis on the other hand upon taking power would execute the likes of littlefinger and varys `and make the realm a place where no one is above the law, who do you think that helps the most??? ill spell it out for you two, it would help the common people!

D&D owe their success SOLELY ON GRRM!!!  Every little change they have made to GRRM's story has been TV-cliche bullshit.  The more the TV show diverges from the original plot, the more we realize that D&D are mediocre writers relying on a master's work (you don't have to change peoples' motivations and ability etc like Stannis to cut ASOIAF into 7-8 Seasons).

Also love how they left out how Renly starved King's Landing by blocking food and grain from the Reach but added a nonsense scene where he yells at Robert for having killed peasants.
