I know I’m several years late to the party, but I just loved your account of taking time to read on moving day. I imagine you surrounded by boxes, but still able to find a quiet place to sit and get lost in a good read. Talk about an ability to focus! I’d probably be distracted by my surroundings and start scrubbing scuff marks off the baseboards, sweeping woozles out of the corners, and peering behind the draperies for potentially forgotten tchotchkes, in between drumming my fingers, and fretting over where the moving crew had got off to.
I’m very impressed — and you’ve kindled my interest in reading “We Have Always Lived in the Castle.”

Funnily enough I adored my husband Simon, I will be doing a video on it but haven’t uploaded it yet. I loved her writing style and the look at Nevis in relation to class. The writing was just so warm and funny and charming. I cannot wait to read more of her work!! Fab video!!

I really enjoy your recommendations as they always include many classics and less well known books unlike those of other booktubers. It really is good to have you back! The blackbirder sounds wonderful!

Such a wonderful video. The Nimko Ali book sounds great, I have just added it to my Waterstones wish list. I have just received The Hunting Party after hearing my mother talk about it, so looking forward to open that and get started with it! Thank you for such great reviews.

Hi Miranda: I'm looking forward to reading We've Always Lived In The Castle by Shirley Jackson. I read Jackson's "The Lottery", as required reading in high school when I was 16 which was many years ago. (I'm 65 now) I was stunned by the ironic plot and fascinated by Tess Hutchinson. Have your read The Lottery? So curious.

One of my summer reads from my "Miranda Reading List" was Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle. I just adored it. Something tells me We Have Always Lived at the Castle will "capture" my interest in not quite the same way. It sounds like the perfect Halloween read. Something I find interesting about The Hunting Party is how unlikable most of the characters are. I found myself thinking that I would have been satisfied if just about any of them turned out to be the villain. Thank you, as always, for the engaging insights.

I love Maya Angelou! I remember reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings years ago. I credit this book for my interest in Jane Eyre which to this day, is one of my favorite classics. I have also read Letter to my Daughter by her which was lovely as well. I am so happy you are back on youtube!! This was lovely as always Miranda.

A really interesting selection, Miranda, including some I would like to add to my to be read list. I enjoyed The Hunting Party as an audio book read by a male and female. Lady Audley's Secret has some wonderful passages and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I, too, loved Mollie Panter-Downes One Fine Day. I have Good Evening, Mrs Craven to read next, as well as We Have Always Lived in the Castle and am glad to hear you give it a good review as that always makes me want to move books further up towards the top of the pile! Can't wait until next time, happy reading, Teresa 📚💕

I have never read any Shirley Jackson but seen her books on other book blogs so I think I will have to investigate. I really enjoyed reading Bitter Orange which you recommended earlier, I thought the writing about the house was strong and I didn't see the ending coming. I have to admit My Husband Simon and Lady Audley's secret both had me wanting to shout at some of the characters due their frustrating behaviour!

Hi Miranda, as always, I liked all your recommendations. But the book I would like to read the most at the moment would be „We Have Always Lived In A Castle. Your book presentations really are a treat!

Miranda first of all the wall image behind you is absolutely beautiful.. .I just recently got into collecting penguin black spine classics and “Lady Audley’s Secret” was one of my purchases...shamefully what drew me to the book was the picture on the cover of someone sprawled out on the floor, but after your review I look forward to reading it...one of my goodreads friend suggested I read “The Woman in White” by Wilkie Collins...so I think I will adding it to my collection...🥰

I love Shirley Jackson. The film of We Have Always Lived in the Castle was good as it pretty much stuck faithfully to the book, unlike some films. I have her biography, The Haunted Life of Shirley Jackson on my tbr pile which has also been made into a film.

It’s been years since I read it but I loved Maya Angelou’s Singing and Swinging. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of it when you get a chance to read it.
