How to Check Inductor with Multimeter

In this video tutorial, we will guide you to check Inductor is working or not using Digital Multimeter.
Here we will check three inductors; Axial, Drum, and Toroidal
There is no polarity in inductor so you can connect any probe of multimeter to inductor pins.

So what is the inductance? If the inductor is shorted between coils the above test will still hold true for a broken inductor.

thanks mate :-) helped me out diagnosing a Behringer Super Octave pedal - I didn't realise inductors should be essentially "shorted". Ah well, the short must be elsewhere on the board!

ok but that doesn't actually tell you the inductance in henries. I guess you would have to send a known AC voltage though it and calculate using the measured impedance. seems like a lot of work.

You should never touch the probes tho as the multimeter will pick up the resistance of your body. If you measure things like that you will get a reading even on an open circuit component
