The highly contagious COVID-19 Omicron variant has spawned a rift among the fully vaccinated in the U.S., with some continuing to follow strict precautions but others resuming more normal activities. Derek Thompson, a staff writer with The Atlantic, joins CBSN to discuss his theory about those who are "vaxxed and done" versus "vaxxed and cautious."

I don't know if the news industry knows it or not but everybody isn't Democrat and Republican some of us choose to think on our own and not do anything society pushes us to do we live in our own worlds and do our own thing every day and I've been that way for years

I am disappointed that the media is creating and proliferating a wedge issue that will further split us all apart and ensure we never solve our crucial problems.

No one should have to get a mandatory medical procedure or lose their job.

This is the best possible outcome. Currently fully vaccinated people will join the ranks of the “unvaxxed” in pushing back against anymore jabs. ✊✊✊

I love how the left wing media is suddenly complaining about the hysteria they created.

Yup vaxxed and canceled my vax of the month club. AOC convinced me not to get the booster or any future vaccines.

If teachers feel the need to go remote, then you have to go remote. We don't have enough teachers to stay open without teachers and we can't afford to keep losing them from the profession.

14:55 It's not what you say or report. It's what you purposefully omit and never discuss, so you can form/maintain a narrative that is the problem.

Everyone I know who’s vaxed got covid and it was rough. As someone not vaccinated at all, I’m less afraid, less sick and I think these people are nuts. I lived a normal life after covid and before the vaccine

People used to fight for their freedom.
Now they give up freedom hoping they will be able to live.

LOVED THIS! Having these kinds of conversations that equate both logical sides of our situation + the split views we have is really important and refreshing. More of this please 👍🏼

First, I find it telling, and troubling, that political parties are named early on in the video despite it being a video about the pandemic. Anyway, I am "triple vaccinated and done". For me, now I look at the pandemic in the same manner as I would a flu season.

We will never be "DONE". Time to adult and listen to Derek's analysis. It makes sense.

The United States just never had a well-thought out, long-term, national strategy outline and implemented to respond to the virus. Every state is doing different things. That's the problem, I think.

I don't think some schools are choosing to close due to hospitalizations. There's not enough staff in many cases and no substitute teachers. All this week, my school was very short staffed. So far this week, there have been 4 positive cases in my kindergarten classroom alone. More were out today due to illness; only 65% were present. Schoolwide, we need at least 75% at school to count it (for statewide funding purposes, we will need to make up that day if we end up with less than 180 days with students at 75% presence). Trust me, I don't want us to close, I'm kind of in the "vaxxed and done" state of mind. However, schools have ALWAYS closed when the flu virus caused too many absences with students and staff. Who do we expect to cover all the classrooms? If we pile up a bunch of students together, which we've had to do, no real teaching/learning takes place. Then, we teachers just become babysitters. Then, we have to make up those days anyway, and the teachers will not be paid for those babysitting days. Right now, with almost half my class out, I'm scrambling to get homework home to students, but I'll have to play catch up when those students return. I think I'm going insane! And I DON'T want to go back to remote learning with kindergartners.
