since raspberry pi 4 can boot from ssd it is my day 2 day machine. already few installed at home - 1 as DACs, 1 as media server/plex and 1 as network streamer - I am super happy with them but microSD was a blocker. thank you for your nice videos

Loved it. Db if you can put together a how to guide for nextcloud running with traefik ( both has there own docker container) on raspberry pi 4 that will be much appreciated.

Thanks for posting the follow up. I actually have that exact same Kingston USB 3.0 and might have run into the same issue. Good excuse to go M.2 (or SSD) ;)

(normal) USB-drives don't really improve performance. Use an external SSD (Samsung T-series for instance or even better an external enclosure with your favorite brand SSD). It's not only faster but less prone to corruption than an SD-card.

there is a bootloader called berryboot that will also work with a usb but you still need the micro sd card

I write the image to usb, be it a thumb drive or ssd and it boot fine, no extra files or anything

A better raspberry *22/7* puts all I/O along a long edge, with GPIO on a short edge. A baller heatsink is standard, with 19v barrel jack power supply. OK, it may cost more than $75.

the gain in speed is when you use ssd ! usb sticks wont go faster than the sd card
