“And her hands might have been small that it looked so freaking huge, but it doesn’t look as big now.”-Star Wars Theory August 5, 2021

The hilt doesn't look as big, but the blade still looks too short

Disney: makes a lightsaber
Theory: fat hilt kinda bad

Star Wars hotel prices are out, you can only use that lightsaber there. It won’t be for sale.

funny how someone can make the first ever fully functioning retractable lightsaber, all people want to talk about is that the hilt is too big or the blade is to small.

5:19 my biggest problem with it being labeled as "retractable" is that no videos released have ever actually shown it retracting. My (star wars) theory is that the blade can only extend at this point in development, as that would explain why no available footage shows it collapsing. I have spoken.

But in Star Wars there are very much different size hilts so it doesn’t bother me that much it’s not like it’s a lightsaber hilt for godzilla

and that's why its circumference is wider (the retractibility) so, I would say they just don't have viable tech at the moment (cost-wise) I would now become interested in a light sabre (the retractable thing makes all the difference) Also, I'm thinking maybe the wee clip we see is a prototype. Things are always made bigger during the initial build or inventing stage because it's just easier. A bigger hilt makes that possible and as for the blade length, if it's a prototype or "work in progress" you wouldn't need it any longer to show that the retractibility functions! It really does appear to be a technological marvel, but for my money, I say that is far from a finished product.

Really think we need to be patient with light saber development. So what if the hilt is a little big…. I mean even in universe light sabers started out with huge battery packs you had to wear. This is amazing progress and will only get better. Nothing but props to the designers on this

I give it 10 years until these sabers are available for public purchase

Shame that saber isnt for sale though. Its just a prop for the cast members to use and for some guest for blaster reflection in their up coming Star Wars hotel

Fans: "The hilt is too big."
Imagineers: "We have made a RETRACTABLE lightsaber, are we a joke to you?!"

The thing that pisses me off about the lightsaber shown is that he turns it on with the button they used in the sequels, even though it was clearly activated differently in every other Star Wars media before it

4:55 to be fair, the one's meant for dueling reflect the hilts made for the prequels, which were noticably slimmer than those in the originals due to it being (as you may already know) engineered with dueling in mind and used a metal rod without any mechanical components being a part of the hilt itself (as the mechanical hilts were constructed for spinning the reflective material-wrapped blades of the OT).

Why would you get that, the hilt is just as big as the blade

I think the width looks okay, but the weight may be an issue. It could be classed as a mobile device, so there is an issue of how heavy it is. But just think, you’ll be able to pack your lightsaber along with your smartphone, tablet or laptop.
