Are Chinese Watches Any Good? (Or Garbage?)

Are Chinese watches any good? I've mentioned cheap Chinese watches on my channel before, often in a derogatory manner. However, many Chinese watches under 50 quid can be surprisingly good...

You should do a video on mechanical Chinese watches like those offered from guanquin and cadisen.

Can you sometimes remind people that you can easily change straps with a 2$ spring bar remover? I think a lot of people have in mind that MVMT watches are great because you can 'replace the strap'.

I’m usually not keen on Chinese watches but there was 1 I couldn’t ignore; the Seagull 1963. A little bit difficult to get a hold off, especially if you want a “legitimate” one as eBay and even Amazon has knockoffs of it but worth it if you can. It’s not cheap, even used but it looks great with the gold tone dial and a good leather strap. Feels solid too. A good watch is a good watch, no matter where it came from and the 1963 is a good one.

I only use $3 watches on my farm because of the abuse they receive, and they always last well - they usually last for years, even on the same battery. I will only buy cheap and nasty now. I have had more expensive watches that just don't last.

I bought a watch branded "Sewor". Automatic submariner style. Did not expect much for £13.80 delivered.
I have had it now for 5 years, and it is still working - and seems accurate to better than +/- 10 sec per day.
Seriously impressed with it. It looks nice enough for a daily watch, it's accurate, it's mechanical / automatic and after 5 years of use I think I can call it reliable too. If it stopped today, I would definitely have had more than my money's worth. I have a funny feeling it will keep on going though.

as a chinese, I can tell you that almost every chinese love and choose foreign biand or product, we dont care its made in china or not, the vanity of chinese make us love every "sounded like foreign" watch and dislike every "made in china" watch, so, the chinese watch industy never get a good environment to advance

You opened me the gates for a new world, I've found so many Chinese brands online who sell good looking watches at a relatively low price (max 80€). I've Googled a bit, and on reddit I found out that for their price, they're at least on par with other similar price watches.

You can get much better Cadisen watches. I have a Cadisen with a Miyota 9015 movement and sapphire crystal that I got from aliexpress for $105. I'd say that the sweet spot for chinese watches is around $50. I'm glad you shouted out "just one more watch" youtube channel. For anybody that is interested in chinese watches, go check out his "chinese special" playlist.

I have an identical watch to the Cadisen one, under the brand name "Megir". Great watch for its price, I love it.

I’ve got a pagani chronograph with a Seiko meca quartz movement that doesn’t look too dissimilar, also about £25. Changed the crappy strap for one that cost about the same as the watch and it looks half decent....

Thoughts on Sea Gull? Might be good for your future video you were referring to. Cheers!

No matter what the price, if the back cannot be put back the watch is useless.

I bought a Cadisen and a Starking dress watch - both for around €45 - both cane with sapphire crystal, 50m WR, solid links and end links, a high beat movement similar to a Miyota and a Seiko n36 - both have hacking and hand winding. The Cadisen also cane with resizing tools and an added leather strap (okay-ish quality) and both have exhibition casebavks. They’ve both kept amazing time - specially the Cadisen at around a second a day +/-. I would not hesitate to buy from either company again!

Good topic! As big a quartz fan that I am as long as its a decent one, I brought a "Winner" homageish auto a couple of years ago just for the crack .It cost £17 . It ran fast but I regulated it to within a few seconds and removed the rotor because it didn't actually wind the spring so handwind. To be fair its not a bad looking subbie homage albeit with a white dial and has had several comments when worn from time to time! How long the movement lasts is unknown but keep it wound even unworn as an experiment. On aside note Sekonda are making some fine quartz pieces these days for around £30. High quality, well QC, d and good looking.Cheers, Len.
