What did you all think about the episode?

Yeah, I have to admit that when Homer said, “You’ve never done one nice thing for me!” My instant thought was, “Haven’t we done this before!?”

They already had 2 explanations as to why homer was never fired. The first was the gag of burns always forgetting who he was and the second was when burns told him he’d be there forever when homer quit to work at the bowling alley and came back to support Maggie.

Hey, Oregon resident and Simpson's history buff here. Springfield isn't based on Portland, because Matt Groening didn't grow up in Portland. He went to high school in Portland, but he was born and raised in Springfield, Oregon. It's a suburb of Eugene. There's definitely a lot more Springfield in Springfield, where there's little winks to Portland here and there. More than anything, it's small town USA. So many people wrote for the show, and I bet the number of them that have been to Springfield Oregon is pretty close to one.

Abe bringing up how he was a private eye in the 80s just proves my point as to why think Seasons 11-18, Seasons 19-25, Seasons 26-35, and now Season 36, are just 4 different reboots of the Simpsons… just like how there’s many versions of Scooby Doo.

Homers been fired way more than once. Also if Mr Burns was following through on the deal that would mean he remembered who Homer was this whole time, that’s the biggest plot hole.

Regarding MatPat, I think that if anyone takes his theories as fact it's 100% on them, since he always says at the end "BUT HEY THAT'S JUST A THEORY".

Homer: It's my first day.
Mr. Burns: Well, why didn't you say...
Mr. Burns: [realizes] WHOA! YOU'RE FIRED!
These writers just aren't trying anymore.

The Ghost of Frank Grimes is having another mental breakdown and slapping his head realizing how much sense that explanation makes.

Thanks for the shout out Lyds! 😀
Not sure my parents would want to acknowledge that Homer and Marge might eventually be younger than them. If they start claiming that they were born in the 90s or early 2000s I'm gonna lose my shit.

I just had to type this over again because I don't think you can copy and paste a comment on a phone.

I think that, because The Simpsons is all over the place with its own lore, it’d be interesting to have a kind of spinoff show, where there’s a more linear storyline, and there’s a set timeline.

During Homer's Odyssey he was made safety inspector to calm down his campaigns. I always thought that's why he was kept employed.

Admittedly I’m pretty easy and every ep with Mona even mentioned gets my feelings going, but this was fun. I like that Abe’s abuse and parental care were shown in equal measure and that a grand gesture doesn’t erase all the bad. Also a nice call back to Gorgeous Grampa where Homer points out that both Abe and Burns ruined his life, but now they also got him a status quo job.

“No matter how bad I am at my job, I can never get fired! I’m like a Supreme Court justice!”

I think the simpsons can only be explained by a Multiverse and i say that as a former Simpsons Fan. There is the Early Universe (season 1 to 3), the classical Universe (all Seasons up to 2001) the post Classic Universe (all Seasons up to the Movie) and the New Universe, now transformed into the Woke Universe.

The Univers changes every Time jokes with aTime References aren't practical anymore, so the whole setting shifts forward in Time for at least 10 years.

This explains the contradictory Episodes.

Its like Super Hero Comics and their new

The real location of Springfield are the friends you made along the way.

5:43 Its not really a good explanation because Mr Burns promised Abe he wouldn't fire Homer "no matter what."

Yet, even though he has given Homer his job back, he has continued to fire him throughout the series. This just feels like a cop-out explanation to get Homer to forgive again.

Hey, Lydia, the joke was set up. Its not ice cream, its tapioca, which the retirement castle residents “rushed” to earlier!

So the reason why Homer got his job at the Power Plant is cause of a favor Burns gave to Abe and also prevent Homer from being fired no matter how many idiotic mistakes he have made, despite the fact that can't be true if we look back at every episodes where Burns has fired Homer from the Plant for just that, that'd mean Burns was breaking his promises to Abe.
