My headcanon is that it was a Doofensmertz (who is legally an ocelot due to being raised by them) type situation where Moe's mother couldn't take care of him and he wound in a yeti's care.
She either gave him to the yeti or it found him, either way I can't really think of a way she hadn't planned on leaving him to freeze to death and he got lucky. Poor Moe, even when trying to headcanon away inconsistencies he gets the short end of the stick.

Hi Lydia, I have a head canon idea. Moe's Dad was an irresponsible, wreck less, heartless poor loser who worked in a freak show in the early years. Which can explain a yeti scene in which Moe left by accident while his parents were visiting the mountain and several years after they other 2 kids. Moe's Armenian mother had a divorce with Moe's papa. Afterwards, the dad realized his huge mistake and took on the business while selling mattresses. Then comes the Syzlak stores which of course explains why moe was dressed up like a nerdy Bum. Throughout the youth flashbacks. Without retconing most of Everything
