Oh hey, we're related! I have done extensive genealogy on my own family and Lewis Whitcomb and Mary Goltry are my 3rd great grandparents!

A few other notable descendants of John Whitcomb and Frances Coggan;

1. Indiana Governor Edgar Doud Whitcomb (1917-2016) - 8th-great grandson through son Job Whitcomb
2. President Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933) - 9th-great grandson through daughter Catherine Elmes (Whitcomb)
3. Historian Frank Bigelow Tarbell (1853-1920) - 5th-great grandson through son Josiah Whitcomb
4. Medal of Honor recipient - Lt. Cornelius Hadley (1838-1902) - 4th -great grandson through son Josiah Whitcomb
5. Mayor of Detroit Douglas Houghton (1809-1845) - 4th-great grandson through son Josiah Whitcomb
6. Indiana Senator and Governor James Whitcomb (1795-1852) - 4th-great grandson through son Robert Whitcomb Sr.
7. Major Benjamin 'the Rascal' Whitcomb (1737-1828) - 2nd-great grandson through son Josiah Whitcomb

Now imagine how different everything would be had John Whitcomb stayed back in England!

Always fun to find out how you're related to someone, however distant. My best friend and I both found a person from Katwijk in our family trees. That's a village where pretty much everyone is related one way or another, so we focused on those branches of our own trees and found a fisherman in 1630 that's my ancestor 10 generations back, and her's 11 generations back!

Wonderful video, Matt! It is great to see how we are connected.

I’m most likely a descendant of a seneschal of Leinster who was given land by William Marshal. Nearly a thousand years later people in my family are still named after him. But as an American I’m not related to any presidents lol. My ancestors were their servants. I am related to a minor Irish founding father through the aforementioned Anglo-Norman knight. But through this line I have connection to two US presidents. My 3x great grandmother was a servant for both Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt. FDR and Eleanor paid for her bridal trousseau.

This video has just reminded me of the time when my fifth grade teacher and one of my classmates at the time found out they were related in the middle of class. I don’t even remember how it came up exactly, but I thought it was cool

Given that my earliest ancestor, on my mom's side, to arrive in North America did so essentially as a stowaway, and under an alias, it's hard to track our family tree. According to my Grandma, he was caught hunting on crown land, and instead of facing punishment, snuck onto a ship and left. Only being discovered when the ship was at sail.

It's really interesting to find the Whitcomb last name here, here in Argentina a British man named Alexander Witcomb (1835-1905) established the first photographic studio on the country at the end of the 19th century. That's where some of the most iconic photographs of Argentine history were taken, like the full body portrait of President Julio Argentino Roca at 1900, and some sources say it also photographed Presidents Sarmiento and Mitre among others.

Aloha Matt, I am related to both you and Mr. Beat. Your Grandfather Arnold was my 6th cousin 5 times removed and your Grandmother Melda was my 8th cousin 3 times removed. I am related to Mr. Beat from his Grandmother Mabel, whom was my 11th cousin. I am so happy that one of the people that I love watching here is you Matt and that we are related. I love genealogy as much as you do and love your useful charts. Mahalo for what you do

I found out when they finally found Richard III's remains and DNA tested it, that we're some kind of related, as we have the same mitochondrial DNA. I'm sure it's some kind of very distant relation, but it's pretty neat that my family actually looks a bit like him and Scoliosis runs in our family.

Also, after a few years of genealogy research and help from numerous distant relatives figured out that I might be related to Anne of Cleaves (related, not a direct descendant, obviously). Our family descends from her sister. My little sister and our cousin both actually look almost exactly like her famous Holbein portrait.

We're also related to James I/Mary Queen of Scots through an illegitimate daughter (of James, obviously). I think her name was Janet. It's been a long time since I looked at the records lol

Like you said, it's not exact, but it's interesting to see something like that.

That's increnable, I've done myheritage projcet in 7th grade where we had to do a big assignment which we had to find our paternal ancestors. We found out that some of us (the students) are related to each other, we even got second-cousins in our classes.
