This film was a masterpiece, forget best foreign film, it should just be nominated for Best Picture in general.

10000% agreed! Saw it last night and was so surprised (and happy) that I found myself so connected and attached to the characters. When the humans were on screen, I didn't find myself thinking "Ok, but where's Godzilla?" Instead, I was invested in their stories and cared about what happened to them. When Godzilla came in, his presence was even more impactful for that reason. And for $15 million production budget?! Take note Hollywood!!

YES. Absolutely needs a Best Foreign Film nomination but I fear parts of the film industry in Hollywood still consider Godzilla a joke despite being a film icon for 70 years.

Completely agree, the human side of the story was captivating and you felt their pain. Best Godzilla movie yet!

Kristian, you might not believe this, but the budget for this movie was 15 Mil dollars. That sounds insane! Can't wait to see it in a theater!

I was absolutely floored by this movie and watch. Godzilla was the music the main Character Kōichi Shikishima was the instrument. I cried for every character. The scenes just enhanced the flow and dire of the movie. I also got very little trailers beforehand which was a bonus. My fave and best Godzilla movie. Sorry not sorry MechaGodzilla I love ya to pieces but what a story.

Saw it a couple hrs ago. It was fantastic. Great story, great acting, great action/destruction. More heart than I expected which damn near made the movie.

I'm glad to hear that the people I tend to trust are finding this movie to be a great watch. I'm hoping it carries over to the general public, too. I know Godzilla's been a franchise for decades, but I'm hoping it's seemingly fresh take will get people to turn up. Definitely rooting for this movie.

We saw it on Wednesday night, and echo everything you said, Kristian. It takes you on an emotional dramatic arc with these human characters that really matters and creates tension as you go thru the experience with them. The effects are amazing, and Big G was a menacing force of nature. Definitely gonna go see it again this weekend, and can't wait to get it on 4K blu-ray.

Completely agree. Really great Godzilla film but also just works as a film. And tbh when I found out the budget for it was 15 million, I was astounded.

All the ships and fighter planes that appear in the movie are real and belong to the Japanese military, which was active during World War II.

The ship “Yukikaze”used in the final operation was famous as a lucky ship during the war. During World War II, it sailed more than 16 sorties on important operations. The war ended without suffering any major damage. The ship is the only surviving destroyer of its type.
Therefore, just by hearing the name "Yukikaze" military fans knew that this operation would be successful.

In an interview, director:Yamazaki said, ``If you're a battleship model geek, you'll probably be drawn to the movie theater.''

Although Godzilla-1.0 does change historical facts, it is designed with the idea of ``How to fight against Godzilla with Japan's remaining military strength in 1947.''

I came to this expecting some awesome destruction, as usual. I was not expecting to be horrified by it. I can’t believe a Godzilla movie brought me to tears. Easily my favorite film of the year.
