NOTE: on the 2012 Elantra, the lamps for the right and left brake lights and the lamp for the centre brake light are not the same. Left and right brake lights have a staggered bayonet fitting, so one of the little legs on the lamp is higher than the other. The lamp for the centre brake light has bayonets that are both at the same level.

Once I'd disconnected the power, try as I might I could NOT get the centre brake light 'twist and lock' unit that holds the lamp to untwist and unlock.

So I improvised: to the left and right of the unit there are two small Philips screws that hold the unit in place. If you cannot get the central twist section loose, the simplest thing to do is to unscrew those screws (which is fiddly to do, but the only workaround). Once those screws are undone, the whole unit should drop down (with a little gentle wiggling). This then gives you free and clear access to the lamp holder. Switch out the lamp, replace the unit, put the screws back in (be sure not to overtighten them), and you're done.

This video helped me save $20 on mechanic costs today, thank you ! I always want to point out, I am glad you showed the model # of the bulb you used. The odd thing is though, the shop I went to insisted it was bulb 2357, along with many other online retailers. I bought bulb 2357 and it didn't fit! After I showed your video, they finally let me buy bulb 7506. I also have the Hyundai Elantra 2015 sedan, so now I'm not sure why your bulb is the same as mine, but not listed by other retailers.

Just be careful if the bulb holder does not release after turning it, don't keep turning it as I did. I ended up pulling one of the wires off and it was so short, I had a hard time splicing it back together.
